“no person who works a full-time job should live in poverty”
nobody actually deserves to live in poverty. let go of the idea that we work in exchange for our worth. people are innately worthy and deserving of the basics.
It is a moral failure of our country that we changed the rules to create a trillionaire while doing nothing about the 771,000 homeless and over 18 million who do not have enough to eat.
I laugh quietly every time I open Google to check the time difference between Gaza and a city on the other side of the world, so I can make it to a meeting on time.
The irony is hard to explain unless you are a "so-far" genocide survivor who is still alive by chance and still trying to maintain some sense of normalcy.
You wake up in the morning and begin negotiating with life before the day has even started. You somehow find a way to get to the office with the suffocating fuel and cash crisis. You skip asking the office boy to make coffee because you want to carefully make it the way that might help you survive another long day. You put on your headphones and play calming music, trying to drown out the constant buzz of drones overhead and the intermittent artillery shelling near the "Yellow Line"
Then you sit down at your desk and open your laptop to check the time difference between Gaza and another city thousands of miles away. Of course, you're not planning a holiday, there is just a deadline to meet, a submission to file about the very genocide you are living through.
For a moment, you are juggling calendars, time zones, and meeting invitations like any other professional anywhere else in the world. Then a drone reminds you where you are. An explosion reminds you what you are documenting. A power cut reminds you how fragile the next hour is. And still, the meeting must start on time!
So yes, I laugh every time I type that search into Google, because in less than 30 minutes, I have already overcome more obstacles than most calendar invitations were ever designed to account for.
Anyways, good morning world!
Most modern billionaires are just so tacky. Go endow a library. Fund research and get your name on a cancer center. Sponsor an eccentric polymath who’s obsessed with marble. Build a museum. Fund public parks. Back climate research. Create something that outlives your ego.
Amid Israel’s blockade of Gaza’s water supply, children in northern Gaza celebrated the arrival of rain.
Footage capturing the brutal reality of Gaza’s water deprivation during the genocide.
You have these perverted and deranged white men unironically telling a grown woman she’s arrested for “littering.” Littering isn’t something you can be arrested for. Completely deranged & psychotic and walking around with a gun and badge
I just heard the @BBC radio say that the Israeli army was attacking Hezbollah targets yesterday & they also platformed someone bloviating about how Iran is ‘occupying’ Lebanon.
As a frontline journalist on the ground for the last 18 months, I would like to reiterate that I have not see any Iranian occupation bases in Lebanon. I have not seen any children killed here by Iranian bombs. I haven’t seen the IRGC massacring entire families on a daily basis. The IRGC has not shot at me or killed dozens of my colleagues in targeted attacks. Iran has not been systematically murdering healthcare workers (over 130) in Lebanon.
Israel has violently invaded and occupied Lebanon. The flag flying over the base in Al Khiam is an Israeli flag, not an Iranian flag. (Photo below)
The Lebanese Ministry of Health yesterday reported that 3,613 civilians have been killed and 11,072 have been wounded in Israeli attacks since March 2nd.
Fascism does not arrive saying “I am fascism.” It arrives saying “law and order,” “border security,” “anti-woke,” “election integrity,” and “national emergency.”
