We're on a press call! With @SenSchumer@SenatorDurbin@SenatorMenendez to talk about the role of immigrant workers on the frontlines of Covid-19. Also w/ DACA holder & nurse Jose Aguiluz, DACA holder & teacher Karen Reyes, Denisse Rojas of @PHDreamers, TPS holder Ali Jacknoon.
Ali Jacknoon, TPS Holder: I'm from Sudan, I'm now driving groceries to DC residents. I'm glad to support my city and neighbors during this difficult time. Many grocery recipients are older and don't have anyone to help them. But I don't know my ultimate legal status will be.
Karen Reyes, DACA Holder & Special Ed Teacher (Austin): I have pleasure of teaching deaf and hearing-impaired kindergs. I'm one of 15k DACA recipients who are educators. My mom is a cleaner & I help her financially. If this Admin were to take away DACA, we'd both be in trouble.
More than 100,000 TPS holders nationwide work in essential services such as health care and food production, including 12,500 who live in New York. We need to protect these workers and their ability to live and work in the U.S.
