One day, history may record that India celebrated the resignation of the very man who did the most to fight paper leaks.

The day @dpradhanbjp resigned, the entire country celebrated.

People celebrated as if the biggest villain of India's education system had finally fallen.

But let me ask you something.

Who was the first Education Minister to bring a law that could send paper leak mafias to jail for 10 years and impose a ₹1 crore fine?

Dharmendra Pradhan.

Back in 2010, Kapil Sibal had also attempted to bring stronger legal provisions against examination malpractices. But they never became the kind of stringent national law that could crack down on organized paper leak rackets.

It took 14 years before India finally got one.

Under Dharmendra Pradhan.

Who constituted a high-powered committee led by a former ISRO Chairman to completely overhaul India's examination system?

Dharmendra Pradhan.

Who accepted the committee's recommendations and promised to digitize the examination ecosystem to eliminate future leaks?

Who cancelled the examination instead of pretending nothing had happened?

Who handed the investigation to the CBI?

Who conducted a nationwide re-examination involving lakhs of students and thousands of examination centres within weeks?

Who implemented the National Education Policy 2020?

Who expanded PM SHRI Schools?

Who pushed digital education through DIKSHA and SWAYAM?

Who focused on skill development, multidisciplinary education and preparing India for the future instead of the past?

The same man.

Yet when a system that had been broken for decades finally exposed itself, the blame fell entirely on the one person who was trying to reform it.

You can disagree with his politics.

You can criticize his decisions.

But don't erase his reforms.

Sometimes history doesn't crucify the people who create the problem.

It crucifies the people who expose how deep the problem really is.

Maybe Dharmendra Pradhan wasn't the villain everyone wanted. Maybe he was the reformer India failed to understand.

Kannada activists who loudly oppose Hindi in the name of “language imposition” have remained conspicuously silent when Urdu was made a requirement in certain Anganwadi recruitments in areas with a significant Urdu-speaking population.

If making Urdu compulsory is justified because a community forms 25% of the local population, then by the same logic, why shouldn’t Tulu be prioritized in Tulu-majority regions and Kodava in Kodava-majority regions?

If people born, raised, and educated in Karnataka still cannot read, write, or communicate in Kannada, isn’t that a failure of our language and education policies? Shouldn’t integration through the state’s language be encouraged rather than creating parallel linguistic systems?

If Urdu speakers were to exceed 25% across Karnataka, would the next demand be to make Urdu an administrative language as well? Where does this logic end?

Many self-styled Kannada activists seem eager to oppose every move of one political party, yet remain silent on policies they would otherwise describe as anti-Kannada when implemented by another. Such selective activism raises legitimate questions about whether their primary commitment is to Kannada or to political loyalty.

Kannada will not be protected through selective outrage, double standards, or partisan activism. The language deserves consistent advocacy that rises above party lines and applies the same standard to everyone.

Increasingly, many Kannadigas feel that “Kannada activism” has become less about protecting the language and more about a business model for money, publicity, and political relevance.

Kannadigas should remain vigilant and critically examine whether those claiming to speak for Kannada are truly serving the language or merely advancing their own interests.
