Exciting and very relevant news for the UrchTech project run by @NIVAforskning which aims at improving catch and transport methods of sea urchins in the Tromsø area. Which will in turn benefit the kelp @urchinomics@nofima@AkvaplanNiva
Since the 80s kelp forests in northern Norway has been grazed down by sea urchins. Over 80-mill urchins inhabit the coastline creating large urchin barrens with little other flora and fauna. With few natural predators #tarevoktere are now culling urchins for #kelp#restoration
