The New Orleans Pelicans are signing F Malik Dia to a two-way NBA deal, sources tell ESPN. Undrafted out of Ole Miss, Dia averaged 10 points and 5.8 rebounds for the Pelicans in summer league in July.
I recently signed a 2-year, $12M NBA contract.
Looking back, 3 decisions shaped how I got here:
1. Turned down an extra ~$250K to transfer for my 5th year and stayed at Stanford.
2. Chose to go undrafted instead of getting drafted so I could pick the best situation. That led me to Denver.
3. Turned down a ~$2M guaranteed extension to bet on myself in free agency. I risked injury, poor play, or getting nothing.
I ended up earning roughly 3x that offer.
Three times I had the opportunity to take the money/status in front of me.
Three times I chose the option I thought gave me the best long-term expected value.
$250K → No. Getting drafted → No. $2M guaranteed → No.
Eventually → $12M.
Sometimes the biggest risk is taking the safe option too early.

Yes, but this would incentivize the younger brothers to hold on to shares, but they want out. They voted no on the original sale to Walter (likely because of what you pointed out) and now (after being fully pushed out of their roles with the org) want out, despite the them having the best chance to be last man standing.
The Cavs are eligible to sign any buyout player, regardless of their apron status, during the offseason.
With some teams having 15+ players, several players will be moved. A look at some that could eventually be set free:
Mo Gueye
Ryan Nembhard/Devin Carter
Dorian Finney-Smith
Klay Thompson
Cam Christie
Jarred Vanderbilt
D'Angelo Russell
Olivier-Maxence Prosper
Caris LeVert
Kyle Kuzma
The most underreported detail about the Buss family's ownership of the Lakers is that the trust has a last-man-standing clause. That means if any family member dies, their shares are redistributed to the trust's surviving members. That creates a massive incentive to sell the team because if you don't cash out while you're alive, your kids/family/etc. don't receive any of the proceeds.

A lot of wasted slots this season. Please, if you know you’re weak-minded, arrogant, rude, and won’t follow Big Brother’s rules, stop auditioning for this show so people who genuinely want to be there can have a chance! #bbnaija
Kent Bazemore said in a recent interview that his ex-wife filed for divorce because she wanted stability and was tired of constantly bouncing around. She filed for divorce the same year he retired from the NBA. 💔
🗣️Kent bazemore: “What’s the point of signing a prenuptial agreement or getting married if the person you’re with already has one foot out the door? What’s the point of marriage if your spouse is eventually going to turn to the courts and file for divorce?
I paid $1.5 million for her share of our Atlanta property. She kept the cars and the house while also seeking $150,000 a month in child support, even though her income was below that amount.
My NBA career ended in 2022, and that same year, my wife filed for divorce. The divorce was finalized the following year. Looking back, I can’t help but wonder if I should have seen it coming.
My advice to professional athletes is to seriously consider waiting until after their playing careers are over before getting married.”
The answer is their lifestyle.
They don't own anything fancy.
They live in houses you would not want to live in.
Look at the life of the average educated young person.
Your rent is 2m, your phone cost 1.3m and so on.
Meanwhile, that same money would buy you a piece of land inside the bush.
This is the "dark side of education", it makes you sophisticated enough to be dependent on the trappings of modern society.
It forces you to re-evaluate what you consider successs.
Here's another example, how much does the average young Nigerian spend on earing out?
And how much does the class of people you are looking at spend on eating out.
Long and short is that you can achieve what they achieve if you are willing to live their kind of life.
The problem is that you think their kind of life looks like failure.
Till them tell me say them get belle for me in 200lvl.
I first sick for like 2 days, I no go class, i don dey reason how I go dropout cos my mum's words were "If you impregnate anyone, you'll dropout cos I'll use your school fees to raise the baby"
Told me it was a prank on the 3rd day, I broke up instantly and focused on my education 🥹.
There is a multi-million naira infrastructure crisis hiding in plain sight in Lagos.
A city of 20+ million people, obsessed with football, has only about THREE premium, high-quality 11-a-side pitches (Onikan, Legacy, Nitel...). Every other pitch has ruined grass, terrible topography, zero infrastructure, and no stance. The Three premium pitches are always booked.
I’m currently building a pitch-booking app, I see the frantic search for quality turf daily. The demand completely shatters the supply. Just yesterday I had over 16 requests, and no pitch available for this weekend.
If you have 4 plots of land (~4,500 sqm) and a ₦350M+ budget to import top-tier synthetic grass and build proper drainage, you are essentially printing money.
At ₦150,000 an hour, plus corporate and academy partnerships, the ROI is undeniable.
If you have the capital and want a strategy that keeps your pitch booked out 24/7 from day one, you need the right partner.
Make we work.
Once the transaction is completed, Jeanie Buss will no longer have the required ownership percentage to remain governor. NBA guidelines require controlling owners/governors to own at least 15% of a franchise.
Breaking: The Buss family has decided to sell its remaining 17.8% ownership stake in the Los Angeles Lakers to new majority owners Josh Kushner and Bob Iger, sources tell ESPN.
The Buss family trust -- composed of siblings Jeanie, Jim, Johnny, Janie, Joey and Jesse -- received majority votes to allow trustees to execute the sale. It required four of six votes to enact the tag-along provision of Mark Walter's sale to Kushner and Iger, which valued the Lakers at $12.5 billion.
We have been laughing at the beer parlor gist videos that depict Nigerian middle-aged men and their conversations while drinking in local watering holes. While alcohol ruins health, they are better off mentally because of those friendships and hilarious conversations.
British pubs or American bars can never be the same as our local beer parlors. I don't drink, but I used to hang out with friends who drink at those places, and I laughed so much. Roots in Manchester was a favorite.
Diaspora life changed a lot of things for some Nigerians, and there are many privately struggling with mental health issues. Someone opened up to me recently about why he disconnected from everything for a while and wanted to come back home.
I now understand why Detty December is taken seriously by many. It is desperately needed therapy.
@EmotionsDoctor discussed with me building places for adults to hang out, be themselves, and play like kids without stress. It is desperately needed. Too much adulting can make people snap.
I had a conversation with a divorced friend at wits' end on Saturday. Child care is stressing her out, and she is tired of her job. Outwardly, everyone thinks all is well, and she is doing great, but inwardly she was screaming. I couldn't tell her what I desperately wanted to tell her, as Nigerians would likely see it as an insult. It also wouldn't be very helpful.
Many in the Diaspora need to take a break, come back home for a while, and do less. I wish it were that easy, but we have to help each other to make it easier. Raising children without community support is extremely hard. Our ancestors got some things right; it does take a village.
I am grateful each day for my choice to return, find my own African rhythm, and find my village.
We have now institutionalized ISEE, and it is now a formally registered non-governmental organization.
ISEE was rejected several times by the Corporate Affairs Commission until we amended the name to INITIATIVE FOR SCHOOL EXCELLENCE AND EDUCATION FOUNDATION.
Our chairman is Prof. Bath Nnaji, and I will continue to lead the vision.
Our members are Nathan Nwachuku, Eke Urum, and Tony Udeani.
The goal is for the vision to outlive our generation and lead us to civilization.
This is the beginning of greatness for Africa.
