Mindestens einmal die Woche telefoniere ich mit Auslandsösterreicher die Fragen zur #Doppelstaatsbürgerschaft haben oder Österreicher die deswegen ihre Staatsbürgerschaft aufgeben mussten. Soviele tolle Österreicher 🇦🇹 weltweit. Ein echter Schaden wie wir die verkraulen :-(

It was an honor to be asked to speak at the Israel 🇮🇱rally in Austin, Texas today.

Here is what I said, from an Austro-American (🇦🇹🇺🇸) perspective:

"Good afternoon Texans !
Thank you all for standing here together, in front of the Texas Capitol, sharing one clear message: We stand with Israel!
I’m here as someone from Austria to share voices from across the ocean that echo your strong spirit and solid support. Friends, what Hamas did to innocent people isn’t just an attack on Israel – it’s an attack on the values we all, here in Texas and in Austria, hold dear!
The awful things that happened to men, women, and little children are not just distant events. They are terrible attacks on all people, on decency, and on our shared principles! We can’t and won’t just stand by when such terrible things happen.
Now, you might’ve seen images from protests across Europe that might make you wonder. But know this: there is strong support for Israel in Europe! In Austria's parliament, every single political party, from left to right, stood together to condemn the terrible acts of Hamas. The Israeli flag is flying above our government buildings, showing Austria's support. And this same support can be seen in Germany, EU institutions and many other European capitals!
Austria is with Israel. Europe is with Israel.
Last week’s events go beyond the usual Israeli-Palestinian conflict; they touch people worldwide, challenging our shared human decency and moral compass. Standing here, in front of the Texas State Capitol—a symbol of freedom, justice, and democracy—we remind ourselves of these principles that Israel also stands for, are under attack and need all of us to defend them.
However, I do think there is hope. The unspeakable horrors of the Holocaust, perpetrated by Austrians and Germans remains a dark reminder of why Israel needs to exist. Even with that dark history, today Austrians stand with Israel as partners, supporters, and friends. This change from hatred to friendship shines a light on what can be possible.
So, even with the recent terrible events, let’s stay strong in our belief that a future where peace overshadows conflict and friendship wins over adversity is possible and reachable.
Thank you, Texas, for your unwavering support and to a future shaped by peace and prosperity!"
