My post tend to become too long as it is.

Take my word for it, Joel Glazer decides how much the club will spend in a transfer window and it has nothing to do with how much debt the club has or cash at hand.

I have the view I have because I have followed this club closely for over 30 years.

The club has ~15 times finished seasons with cash at hand and not once has a penny been paid off on the Glazer debt. Instead that money has been taken out of the club to finance the sibling’s living expenses.

The math now is really simply. United is 1bn in debt and is about to build a stadium for 2-3bn which to a large extent will be financed with debt.

United pays 50m in interest cost per year. United’s biggest rivals today has bigger or as big commercial revenue as it and no debt. Even if United go further than City in the CL — City will get much more money from UEFA because their UEFA ranking is much higher and it will take ages for us to catch up.

If United manage to work miracles and go deep in the CL and do well in the PL — 50m could be paid off on the debt in a season. Say that the debt after the new stadium is 3,500m. 3,500m/50m=it would take 70 years to pay off the debt. But only IF we can pull off a miracle 70 seasons in a row and compete with clubs with much higher resources to invest in their squad than we have.

Does this sound like a plan?

No, it doesn’t because it’s not even remotely realistic, and it’s not how the debt will be handled. The Glazers must give up more ownership to solve the debt situation. If the debt is bigger than today, they will have to give up a little more ownership, and if it’s smaller than today, they have to give up a little less ownership. That is why our budget was what it was this summer.
