@mike_petriello This is why sport is beautiful. It lives in the moment. They may get thrashed in the next game but in that moment, they were equal to the best, they were living the dream. It's beautiful because it's fleeting, the moment, el momento, the brief parenthetical eclipse of time.
@spacedglam I often feel this about films. People may think it's good to know a lot but it's actually quite an empty experience since it's an everyday subject that, perversely, since you know too much, you have almost nothing to add that will find any foothold in reality.
@AriWasserman The only way to win is to score and an opposition can make it their mission not to score themselves, necessarily, but to prevent you from scoring. And if you're well organised, tenacious, and lucky, you might draw, or possibly even snatch victory. Peace to the Cape Verdeans.
@AmusedToDeath1 I think the opposite is true, qualitatively. Curb at its best was better but Seinfeld never dropped off as much. The first 4 seasons of Curb in particular are masterful, every episode is like a magic trick.
@LilUziVartan@AmusedToDeath1 Every episode of Curb has very intricately designed plots and subplots. Structurally it's identical to Seinfeld; the only difference is the dialogue is ad-libbed as opposed to written.
@Nomads4Pritzker He's not supposed to be some great actor. He's merely playing "the host" to the brilliant ensemble around him. And his amateurish acting is actually hilarious because he's essentially one of us, barely keeping it professional.
@urlofcork@jk_rowling Perhaps something happened but a Scot would probably say they ur'nae as opposed to they're nae, and again, Lassie, doesn't fit the profile of the people you're describing. The quotes seem too stereotypical to be real.
@BBW_BFF Someone said the other day they didn't understand why people liked horror movies. And I said a similar thing. I don't even know if I believe it, but it sounded vaguely logical. I think my own receptivity is more aesthetic, based on the way the genre creates physical sensations.
@flapdoodle91296@Miss_AshG MJ took the opposite tack for rationalisation: it was all innocence and purity, and if anyone suggested otherwise it was their own corruption and degenerancy, not his. Simple and perhaps unconvincing but potent giving the image of himself he propogated.
@river_dusty Maybe this is a shrewd tactic from MJ. Happily admit to the sleepovers and act like the world is crazy and degenerate for even having the thought of something beyond that, and basically avoiding the ritualised denial process with the media.
