@BCloughprior@MrDanielBuck Absolutely. The homeschoolers who participate in lots of activities are generally awesome. But you’re right- it’s totally on the parents to make this happen.
@meowingabyss Absolutely. I mean, the vast majority of times that I ask my older kids to watch the toddler are so that I can take care of things FOR THE OLDER KIDS (or for the family unit) that I can’t do with a toddler in tow.
@kristinaEBP@bbbrazil__ Based on all of your responses, I’d say childcare wouldn’t be the job for you. Some people are built to work with kids, some can’t handle it. Believe it or not, some people actually enjoy working with children…sounds like it was not a good fit for your personality.
@KrissyM222@Romy_Holland If I were leaving my 5 kids for an extended time I’d hire Mary Poppins and pay big bucks…it can be hard, I get that. But the average 3 hr stint making pretend orders to a 3yo from his play kitchen is a different job.
@KrissyM222@Romy_Holland Sure, but in many states police officers make less than $30/hr. They’re also emotionally taxed and dealing with emergencies. Definitely dealing with brats, too. Hard to buy that babysitting is more skilled and should command a higher rate.
@Pragu3704@OKbeekeeper@Ria1984 So by this metric it seems like homeschool parents are doing just as well as schools at teaching “complex concepts and academics”, no?
@bellsforstacy@MickeySorg@karol My husband coaches rec 2 seasons a year because we believe in it and want to make it better. 😉 We can also admit that it currently sucks.
@BarrettH07@karol This is exactly the issue. Rec has gone down the tubes and, if you’re a decent athlete, will end up bored to tears very quickly. Wish it were different but here we are.
@bellsforstacy@MickeySorg@karol Meh. I thought this, too, but my 11yo girls were bored to tears when entire games went by without a single strike being thrown. Other sports like bball are easier to just run around and have fun regardless of ability.
@spectator The cult-like rationalization of daycare is WILD. Peak cognitive dissonance. Daycare might be FINE, but let’s not delude ourselves into thinking that it’s a positive thing for kids to spend most of their waking hours with strangers.
