We are an art therapy studio, based in Islington and for refugees and asylum seekers from across London. Our members have experienced trauma and loss of loved ones during migration, and now they find themselves in the same terrifying situation with COVID-19 1/4

"When I was a child I was a soldier. When I paint I get my childhood back - every colour is smthg different & makes me feel happy again. I love to touch it & I can speak easily. I get a bit of freedom for my mind" - a member talks about healing through #arttherapy. #RefugeeWeek22
This is a powerful expression of the refugee experience: amazing work by Stefano Addae and a reminder of how art can often express things in a way that words on a page cannot
It's #RefugeeWeek2022 and this year's theme is our speciality -✨healing✨As usual, our members say it best: "I fly in my art, it’s how I explain myself. There are no barriers. You choose the colour you want, the shape you want, no-one can tell you what to paint..." #arttherapy

An asylum seeker with severe swelling of the leg once told me he had to walk four miles to and from the hospital. He collapsed several times, but couldn't afford to pay for a bus from the £37.65 a week he received for "essentials".
