@MorlockP Venice shrinking isn't new, they have to rebuild and pave over with stone ever 100 years or so. They are behind because of efforts to preserve things for tourism. But many buildings have already sealed their current first floor with concrete, the roads are behind
Augustine categorizes this as “lies that harm no one and protect someone from harm”. He has a very absolutist stance that you shouldn’t even lie in this scenario. I forget the relevant names, but there is a story of a man taking sanctuary. Soldiers tell the monk that they think he is hiding him. The monk tells them “I am hiding him but I will not tell you where he is”, afterwards the monastery is raided and the monk is tortured. I still don’t really understand the nuance of omission, especially in this scenario. It’s not obvious to me that this was the best action for him to take
@Duderichy I did this for like 2 years in my early 20s before I realized that I just liked gambling. Since then I have seperated my investment and gambling activity
