Have we mentioned that you can still buy Issue One? Originally published 2020, still beautiful, and still throwing off rainbows 🙌

This morning an unexpected rainbow manifested upon the ceiling of my living room. When I investigated this trick of optics, it turned out to be morning light hitting a copy of @newmodality Issue One
Just realized I never posted photos here. Although it’s been a while since the exhibit closed, I want to celebrate my fave piece from the tiat exhibit: “Altar” by Norman Sheu
From afar, looking at this piece, you see an altar centered among panels of cloth dyed with indigo. As you draw near, you find an indigo plant presented on a high altar, and below it, a shorter altar with a mortar and pestle, as well as a bowl of dried indigo leaves. The mortar and pestle offer an invitation to tap your phone, and if you do that, it calls up a text-art-style image of falling rain, and invites you to type an offering to the rain.
A friend who was with me when I saw this piece asked me why I love it so much - I was just thrilled from the moment I saw it. It’s hard to explain, but one thing I think is cool is that this piece shows the workings of a mind very different from mine, yet who sees beauty and meaning in similar things.
Just announced an offer for everyone who backed the original NewMo Kickstarter OR who has already pre-ordered Issue Two:

Wow these replies are wild. So many people think this scene no longer exists! Its parties took a hit during Covid but it’s for sure still around…
- Check out @BerkeleyAlembic for a gathering place
- My magazine @newmodality namechecks and covers lots of people in this scene
I wonder if anyone with strong expertise in cluster B personality disorders also has strong expertise in AI - and has written about AGI.
I’d read that essay for sure, and potentially edit/publish it, if it hasn’t been written yet.
At the time I saw this rainbow I was literally texting with a young friend who just read the magazine and was sending me compliments about it. With her permission, here are the texts she was sending
I’m quite delighted by the omen ngl. Maybe it’s silly, but I still love rainbows
@weischoice@lydialaurenson We’re taking submissions on a rolling basis for now. Once we have a final deadline for submissions, we will send a message to the mailing list.

@ijfen@newmodality The incredible Jenna van Hout, who was the art director for the first issue, had to convince me to invest in that shiny cover. I was like “it’s gonna be so expensive” and she was like “it’ll be worth it” and she was one thousand percent correct 😹
@newmodality’s first issue even contains an excellent guide to throwing safe psychedelic parties from Annie Oak —a leading expert at that.
Annie is where I learned a vital party safety measure:
Inform everyone they are / will be held responsible for behavior of their invitees.
Several friends of NewMo agree that the new @OdysseyWorks remote performance is lovely and heartwarming. "An immersive journey with a friend deep into a story custom built for the two of you"
