U.S. Marines Col. Ret/ Foreign affairs commentator / Senior Fellow @ Center for Security Policy & Japan Forum for Strategic Studies / Author: When China Attacks
My book, When China Attacks: A Warning to America, considers the multi-faceted PRC threat to the US and the free world, the damage that's been done after decades of 'non-kinetic' war, and what to do about it. It’s available now wherever books are sold: https://t.co/X4RSf9c7RK
Starbucks learned the lesson all foreign firms that go into China learn -- your days are numbered. Starbucks USA no longer controls Starbucks China -- so no surprise Starbucks is setting up in Xinjiang. A huge embarrassment for the supposedly socially conscious brand. The moral of the story? Stay out of China.
Volkswagen pulled out of China’s Xinjiang Uyghur Autonomous Region after 12 rather shameful years.
German automaker’s exit demonstrated the near impossibility of operating responsibly in a region where the UN concluded in 2022, following a landmark investigation, that a “pattern of large-scale arbitrary detention occurred” in Xinjiang that could constitute “crimes against humanity”. Charbucks will not be getting my business.

Tucker Carlson worked aggressively behind the scenes during the transition to sow discord and undermine confidence in my dad, Keith Kellogg, as the lead envoy to end the war. It is abundantly clear watching his interview with Jacob Rees-Moggs (who crushed Carlson) why he did so.
In this one hour interview Carlson repeatedly pushes one overarching proposition: that defending other sovereign states against aggression is itself irrational, dangerous, and contrary to the national interest.
Carlson argues that resisting Hitler ultimately wasn’t worth Britain’s sacrifice, and if that’s the bar then virtually no contemporary European security threat could ever clear the threshold.
So he isn’t simply lowering the threshold for non-intervention. He’s raising the threshold for resistance beyond reach.
These are his core arguments:
1. America’s allies aren’t worth defending.
2. Ukraine isn’t really sovereign.
3. NATO creates rather than deters wars.
4. Military strength causes escalation.
5. Western governments are a greater threat than hostile foreign powers.
Resistance merely gets ordinary people killed.
6. The wars we thought were morally unambiguous weren’t worth fighting.
Carlson wants the West dumb, defenseless, and deterred. This is death of civilization stuff.
This man typifies the sort of South Korean that along with the Americans stopped the North Koreans and the Chinese during the Korean War and built the ROK into a solid democracy. The DPK / Lee Jae Myung types would have rolled over and surrendered. When Americans think of 'Koreans' they think of Kim Sung-hoon 'Koreans'. @captainkang38
Deputy Chief of Presidential Security Kim Sung-hoon served 7 South Korean presidents. The last president to whom he provided security was President Yoon Suk-yeol. Kim faithfully carried out his duty, despite enormous pressure. He couldn't abandon the president and the Presidential guards who looked up to him. For dedication to his duty, he's being persecuted.
Remember this hero.

David Brooks, NY Times: "Starting in 2015, we in the Main Stream Media learned that if you bash Donald Trump, the clicks go up, the ratings go up— it became the business model.
And we get to go to sometimes off the record dinners between journalists, columnists, and politicians. And I would say over the last two years, when you were at a dinner with Democrat politicians, there was distance between the journalists and democrats.
They’re politicians, it’s our job to keep some distance. In my view, in many of the places I’ve been to, there’s no distance anymore. And that is the problem for the media. We have to establish some distance from the Democratic Party. These are people we cover, these are not people we root for. We’re not supposed to be spin doctors for them…”
@LarryOConnor David Brooks' comments about the media's closeness to the Democratic Party are accurate, but they're also a bit like discovering gravity.
Starbucks opening up in Urumqui is one for Ivy League business school case studies - ie. for how much money will a company's management overlook human rights atrocities? (Of course, if Starbucks management was smart they would have stayed out of China in the first place.)
Starbucks opened in Urumqi. It makes you wonder whether the propaganda department has ordered that all videos from Xinjiang must include Uyghurs dancing.

This is very well put. This is why at @JamestownTweets we try as much as possible to give voice to both approaches (and there are some other methodological elements and other differences in emphasis) in the China Brief (@ChinaBriefJT)
@PLMattis@JamestownTweets@ChinaBriefJT Well stated. One wishes FBIS (Foreign Broadcast Information Service) was still around. Should never have been ended.
The 2027 timeline wasn't based on much. US Navy Captain James Fanell's 'Decade of Concern' -- 2020-2030 remains the most accurate description of what China has in mind for Taiwan. Capt Fanell sounded the alarm in the early 2010's and was cashiered by Navy's perfumed princes. None of whom have apologized. https://t.co/A4617kNZxh @nypost
I think this is accurate. XI purged too many generals and military leaders, and the regime's military has been exposed as nowhere near the fighting capability they'd need.
