3. Bad body positions + lack of movement between lines/ vacant spaces behind the defence

One thing I’ve noticed during matches is the players’ body positioning, which is far too amateurish. In most situations, we are facing the wrong way, which affects our ability to carry the ball forward on the first touch or use two efficient touches to control and pass in order to progress further into the opponent’s half.

Poor scanning and body positioning lead to weaker touches and invite more intense pressure from the opposition. This ties back to football IQ and the players’ cognitive abilities.

The lack of good movement and timing in the spaces between the lines and behind the defense is very evident in this group of players. Too often, we fail to exploit the spaces that open up on the pitch. We are far too static, waiting for the ball to come to our feet before thinking about the next situation. This is simply not good enough. Of course, this can be improved with more training and better chemistry between the players. Better chemistry will lead to improved timing in runs and movements, both in and around the box. But as of now, we are far too weak in this area.
