This RCT currently includes endurance-trained individuals diagnosed with #Afib in 🇦🇺🇧🇪🇳🇴
Inclusion criteria:
✅Documented AF
✅≥2 episodes last 6 months
✅Otherwise healthy

@JessaZiekenhuis and @Cardio_KULeuven are currently including athletes diagnosed with Atrial Fibrillation in NEXAF. Thanks to our good friends and NEXAF collaborators for organizing a great meeting during the UCI European Championship this weekend!
Why are athletes prone to atrial fibrillation and should they stop training when diagnosed?
NEXAF researcher @MariusMyrstad has contributed to this story in @ScienceMagazine
Enjoyed contributing to this @ScienceMagazine piece on AF in athletes alongside @ALaGerche@MariusMyrstad@EP_mom1, Nikola Drca and Jack Goodman

Great presentation by NEXAF PhD-candidate @KristofferRJ89 at the #ESCPrev2024
Atrial Fibrillation associated with ⬆️ mortality in endurance athletes. But absolute risk much lower compared to non-athletes. ➡️ Management of CV risk factors important in athletes with AF
NEXAF-leder Marius Myrstad gjestet nylig NRK-podcasten Skiklubben. I denne episoden diskuteres ulike temaer knyttet til trening og hjertet, inkludert atrieflimmer og NEXAF Detraining-studien @SiljeNordnes@EGukild@NRKradio https://t.co/lKaTbBMnnd
Bærum hospital 🇳🇴 is the first site to reach 30 included athletes in The NEXAF Detraining Study on effects of reduced exercise intensity on AF burden in endurance athletes - congratulations @MariusMyrstad @TuridApelland Still including at all sites! 🇦🇨🇧🇪
Great summary of our AFNOR study in This Week in Cardiology, the best medical podcast by @drjohnm https://t.co/Dxdcp2hKGa at 22.45 min via @medscape@MariamAnjumMD
Andre is currently running a study with @MariusMyrstad on the impact of training intensity on atrial fibrillation (AF). Endurance-trained (>5h/week) individuals suffering from AF may participate. Read about the @NEXAF1-study and how to get in touch here https://t.co/93pHgvArJF
Highly recommended listening : @ALaGerche brilliantly explains #afib (including relation with exercise, sex differences, exercise with afib and distinction from ventricular arrhythmias, starting after 43 Min) + other cardiac conditions in athletes. Great podcast @GlennMcConell1
Does vigorous endurance exercise cause #Afib in women? Despite low prevalence of risk factors, we found a relatively high prevalence in older female athletes, suggesting exercise may promote #Afib also in women https://t.co/0pUd50gMKV @AfibNo
While some athletes experience #afib episodes during exercise, others have symptoms at rest. Reflecting different mechanisms? We found a 3 to 6-fold higher rate of AF episodes during and within the first 3 hours after training #ESCcongress
