🚨🚨 MAJOR UPDATE RELEASED 🚨🚨
@nflseedR#rstats package 📦 v2 is now live on CRAN.
Updates include a new generation of
-- high efficient code to calculate NFL standings and apply tiebreakers (almost max depth),
-- high efficient code to simulate tens of thousands NFL seasons.
If you're having trouble with @nflseedR today, it's because of a bug with only some of the divisional games defined.
It will be resolved after tonight's game. Apologies for the inconvenience.
Last year, I started replacing the NFL standings calculation in @nflseedR with high efficient code in data.table.
The implementation of tiebreakers has caused a few headaches and my plan was actually to write the season simulation in data.table as well, but the development came to a stagnation.
That's why I decided to merge the standings code into the nflseedR dev branch today.
It is designed to manage thousands of seasons with one call. The performance boost is brutal!
Calculating standings (incl. all tiebreakers) of 10k seasons used to take almost 3 minutes on my laptop. Now, it's less than 30 seconds!
data.table rewrite of the season simulation has no eta, but it will come.

Looking for something _way_ too early to do?
@nflseedr now supports simulating 2024! It uses a fake schedule week-by-week, but each team's opponents and away/home are correct to what will happen in 2024.
simulate_nfl(nfl_season = 2024)
Is it too early to start simulating the 2023 NFL season?
Probably, but @nflseedR will let you anyway. Just specify 2023 as `nfl_season`, and it will use a fake schedule with correct opponents, correct away/home, and no byes (so 17 weeks).
No package update is required.
nflseedR v1.1 has released!
Among other updates, includes a summary function which produces a chart for the output of your simulations.

Great use of @nflseedR by the NFL's @DataWithBliss, analyzing through thousands of simulations the impact of each Week 5 game on each team's postseason.
Using @nflseedR , here is the probability that each game will have a post season impact for each team ordered by most impact to least impact.
Denver has the most on the line while Detroit has the least.
We recently passed 5,000 downloads of @nflseedR!
Thanks everyone for your support, enjoy your simulated seasons, and good luck with your futures bets. :)
Excited to finally publish my 2021 #nfl projection model. I used a mix of distributional modelling and bayesian updating to project the results of each game this season. Initial predictions here and model description in thread #nflverse

📢📢 ANNOUNCEMENT ❗
Very excited to announce that the nflverse team has released nflreadr on CRAN. nflreadr is a package to facilitate easily downloading data from a bunch of different sources (so you don't have to remember urls).

There's an additional new output from running thousands of NFL season simulations in @nflseedR!
`game_summary` will tell you in how many simulations (raw count and rate) each team won a given game. Including simulated playoff games!

PSA: the various NFL packages created by @benbbaldwin, @mrcaseb, @LeeSharpeNFL, and @_TanHo have been consolidated into one "umbrella" organization:

Good news, everyone!
nflseedR, your favorite open-source NFL season simulator package, is now available on CRAN!

As the 17th game looks increasingly likely, a reminder that @nflseedR already supports the 17-game schedule and has a "fake schedule" in place for your simulations now!
New update: Future season!
Support added to simulate a future season before a schedule release by using a "fake schedule" which has the correct opponents (and home/away) for each team, but not the order the games will occur in.
Remove and reinstall package to get the update.
