Dr. @DianaAtwine: Even when someone only shows symptoms, avoid sharing personal items with them. We also discourage the use of a common cup for Holy Communion in church during this period.

Yesterday I visited Mulago National Referral Hospital in Kampala, where a separate unit has been prepared to treat #Ebola patients. I'm glad for the opportunity to meet with health workers in charge and thank them for their dedication. I am very happy with all the work invested in preparedness and readiness that I have witnessed.
I commend the Government of #Uganda for the work being done to control Ebola and provide care for those affected. Uganda’s leadership has been central to the response, and @WHO remains committed to supporting national efforts to stop transmission, save lives and protect communities.
Mwebale nnyo.
Today, @DrTedros, @WHO Director-General, joined health authorities, ambassadors, high commissioners, heads of missions and partners in Uganda to brief them on the #Ebola outbreak in neighbouring Democratic Republic of the Congo.
Dr Tedros applauded #Uganda's commitment to continued, real-time transparency in sharing information on the outbreak and actions taken.
He reiterated that travel restrictions placed without clear public health rationale are not needed and can in fact discourage the transparent sharing of real-time information.
Today, the Ministry of Health with support from @WHOUganda convened a high level meeting with @WHO@DrTedros and Ambassadors, Heads of Mission and Development Partners to provide an update on the ongoing Ebola response in #Uganda.
Leading the Ministry's delegation, Permanent Secretary, Dr. @DianaAtwine reaffirmed Uganda's commitment to transparency, timely information sharing and evidence-based response measures. She attributed the progress made in containing this outbreak to the strong political will from H E @KagutaMuseveni, who has consistently championed Uganda's response to public health emergencies.
In response to supporting DRC in containing this outbreak, Dr. Atwine said "DRC is our brother country and through regional partnerships and efforts, we shall be able to defeat this outbreak."
Dr. Atwine called upon countries that have imposed travel restrictions on Uganda to reconsider their decisions.
Echoing this call, @DrTedros emphasized that travel restrictions are not helpful in controlling Ebola outbreaks and can negatively affect the movement of essential supplies, personnel, and commodities needed to support response efforts. He noted that such measures risk undermining trust, transparency, and international cooperation, and commended countries that have continued to follow WHO recommendations by avoiding unnecessary travel and trade restrictions.
He emphasized that Governments remain in the driving seat of the response and partners are required to support efforts including one plan, one budget and one Monitoring and Evaluation framework.
Dr. Tedros commended the Ministry's response to the Ebola outbreak under the leadership of Dr. @DianaAtwine and reaffirmed WHO's commitment to support the response.

We had a productive meeting with @WHO Director-General @DrTedros and development partners to review the Ebola outbreak response and strengthen coordinated preparedness and response efforts in Uganda and across the border.
A key strategy for ending this outbreak quickly is to collectively combat misinformation through continuous awareness and communication. False beliefs that Ebola is a scam or the result of witchcraft are lowering risk perception, leading to dangerous behaviors that can fuel transmission and even put response teams at risk. Our greatest fear is community spread, which can challenge even the strongest response systems. We must all recognize the seriousness of the threat, adhere to the preventive measures in place, report any suspected cases, and actively educate our families and communities. By protecting others, we protect ourselves, because once Ebola spreads within communities, it can affect anyone. It can find its way to ANYONE.
I am in #Uganda, where the government has mounted a prompt and capable response to the outbreak of #Ebola.
Screening at the borders helped detect cases arriving from neighbouring #DRC, and the country’s surveillance, testing and case management systems are doing steady work. Of the 19 confirmed cases so far, 14 were among people who entered from DRC and five are Ugandan nationals. Sadly, two people from DRC have died, and our thoughts are with their families.
@WHO is supporting Uganda, alongside @AfricaCDC and partners across the region, as the country leads this response.
With continued collaboration, I am confident this outbreak can be brought under control.
#ICYMI: Omar Abdulkadir Artan, the 1st #Somali selected for a #FIFAWorldCup, was denied entry into the United States at Miami Int'l Airport due to unspecified vetting concerns.
Despite traveling with a diplomatic passport and a valid visa, Artan was returned to Turkey & dropped.
