Shams NGO was created in 2015 to contribute to the protection of the basic rights and promote the well-being of the Yazidi national minority in Armenia.

The right of Yazidi children to education is violated over and over. Girls are said to leave school to be married off, but it is not always the case, Yazidi children may leave school for other reasons too: social-economic factors. We have to raise our voice for the voiceless.

Today, the students of Hovtashen Secondary School, accompanied by our President H. Bakoyan, attended the award ceremony for the “Let’s Sing and Dance in Our Mother Tongue” video competition, where students achievement highlighted the friendship between the Yezidis and Armenians.

Shams NGO President participated in a working discussion with @armparliament and @minESCSarm raising challenges facing Yezidis in schools, the need to increase Yezidi language class hours, strengthen cooperation to protect educational rights and cultural identity.
