A visit to the @morethanadodo collection, & a quick peak at the fleas
Two big names here - Charles Nathaniel Rothschild who described over 500 spp & Charles Darwin who collected this whilst on ‘The Voyage of the Beagle’
What stories these fleas could tell
We have Olga Pawelczyk from Medical University of Silesia in Katowice over on @SynthesysEU. She is using the @NHM_IAC suite to measure many fleas for a new identification guide
This mornings excellent collection find was this!
The original plates used for the 1966 Hopkins and Rothschild Catalogue of fleas.. (and now maybe my Christmas cards)

Writing about fleas is lovely because of the folks who studied them. I get to shuffle through my books and admire the work that was published over 350 years ago..👊😎🙌
#RobertHooke was a master of the microscope
The #Rothschild collection of fleas is a marvellous thing. Kept in the original cabinets is a wealth biological data.
One such cabinet is labelled monstrosities (!!) and this specimen resides in it! I wonder who added the description…#FridayFlea@NHM_Digitise@NHM_London
