I need people to stop saying Ellington is Dwayne's son like yesterday like please cut that shit out because to even think that the writers would display and glorify incest is diabolical in itself like stop ๐๐ตโ๐ซ#ADifferentWorld
He was repeatedly put on notice. OutKast was BEYOND patient with him, if you ask me. This went on for over a year before a lawsuit was ever filed.
The facts that people seem to leave out:
June 2025: He receives a cease-and-desist.
July 2025: He gives an interview where he himself acknowledges that people read Ovrkast as OutKast and confuse the two (I know his lawyer was pissed because this is literally the confusion at the center of the trademark dispute. He talks too much.)
Then the attorneys negotiate. According to the lawsuit, they reach terms for him to transition to OVERKXST. His own attorney later asks OutKast for MORE TIME, requesting a July 15, 2026 deadline.
OutKast agrees to the extension and sends the finalized agreement.
July 13: two days before that deadline, he comes back asking to use different names they ALREADY declined.
July 15 passes and he continues using OVRKAST.
OutKast STILL doesnโt immediately sue him. They send another notice on August 5 and give him until August 11 to comply.
According to the complaint, he doesnโt respond and continues using the name. The lawsuit isnโt filed until September 16.
It has now been a year+ of back and forth.
Then when the lawsuit becomes public, he wants to troll until he tweets: โI NEVER SIGNED any agreement. It was verbalโฆโ He later deletes that post (again, he talks too much) and reposts his response without the part acknowledging the verbal agreement.
So no, this wasnโt OutKast randomly deciding to financially crush some โyoungโ artist. There was a year of warnings, negotiations, an extension his side requested, another opportunity to comply, and continued use of the disputed name before they finally sued.
Now theyโre asking the court for an injunction, profits tied to the alleged infringement, damages, legal fees and destruction of OVRKAST-branded materials.
He fucked around and found out. ๐คท๐ฝโโ๏ธ
Isaiah Rashad speaks on his early days at TDE and not getting a warm welcome, having to prove himself and being mentored by ScHoolboy Q
โI thought that I would get some by the books schooling in rap that I never got, I thought I would get a big embrace but it was like whoโs this fucking kid, why yโall sign him for?โฆ I probably got the most hands on lessons from Qโ
Recess exists because two writers lost a fight over how mean Angelica Pickles should be.
Paul Germain co-created Rugrats. His son inspired Tommy. Angelica came from a real bully in his childhood, and he wanted to write her that way. His team started penning darker episodes exploring why a three-year-old torments the babies.
Co-creator Arlene Klasky hated it. She thought Angelica was too cruel and the storylines too mature. Critics praised those exact episodes. The rift over one cartoon character split the creative team behind the biggest kids' show on TV.
So Germain walked. He took Joe Ansolabehere, story editor of the first 65 Rugrats episodes, straight to Disney.
Their new show kept the same core trick, kids running a hidden society adults never see, and aged it up to fourth grade. Germain named the school after Third Street, the real elementary school his own kids attended. The playground ran like a prison yard out of The Great Escape, complete with a king and a warden.
It premiered on ABC 29 years ago this week and became the network's biggest Saturday morning hit of the late 90s. The 2001 movie pulled $44.5M.
Two of the defining cartoons of the 90s, and the wall between them is an argument about a cartoon toddler.
Mind you, he cleared it for free because he knew how important that kind of support was for Black artists, especially Black women coming up in the industry.
Anthropic researcher: Yeahhhh AI is about to kill off humanity in a decade or so. Yโall be easy.
His coworker: Yep, heโs right.
