A video editor by day that moonlights as a video essayist for fun. Also wrote a novel (link on my website). Check out my YT for my video essays/podcasts.
Minor announcement:
Self published my second book/a tie-in novella for the holidays!
They're all available on my Amazon Author page: https://t.co/c6uuw4NRpN
Also, the short story is free on every other ebook platform and should be free on Amazon in a few days
Steven Spielberg: Certified Alien Guy™
Firelight, Close Encounters of the Third Kind, ET: The Extra Terrestrial, War of the Worlds, Indiana Jones and the Crystal Skull, and now Disclosure Day are all films about aliens, and I love that for him.
Dropping word that I am, in fact, still alive. Got a massive hour and twenty minute long video dropping on my channel NicheCaesar this Sunday.
It's all about Mission: Impossible and the ways in which you can observe history from the past thirty years across the movies.
Re: the Kidman and Scorsese drama
Yeah, it was a dumb comment. But it’s very telling that half the posts on my feed about the quote (and the replies on them) are just straight up misogyny 🙄
@metaplexmovies Could you imagine if he’s been secretly filming all of the exotic gifts he’s gotten co-stars and has a reality TV show about finding the next MI Star just waiting to come out lol
something i find genuinely moving and relevant about mission impossible is how much of it is guys forcing ethan hunt into choosing between saving his actual friends or saving the nameless, faceless masses. and every time, ethan refuses to accept their binary and chooses both.
Speaking as an author: then contact the AUTHOR and ask for a free copy of the book. When you pirate, you not only cost me sales, you could get me kicked off Amazon altogether if I'm enrolled in Kindle Unlimited, which I am. So yes, you could destroy my career before it even starts.
Here's why. If I enroll in KU--which I did to give people the option of borrowing my book FOR FREE--it means my ebook has to be exclusive to Amazon. If Amazon's web crawlers find it elsewhere online, they could kick me out of the program or even delete my author account altogether.
And I cannot say this loudly enough: AMAZON WILL NOT CARE. Pirates who think they're striking a blow again the evil mega-corporation are only hurting the author. Amazon will not miss me if I'm gone. But I have no other choice as an indie author. While I plan to diversify and put my book on other platforms, Amazon is where the vast, vast majority of readers are. If I want my work to get noticed, that's where I have to go.
I can't know how many sales the piracy cost. I found my book on three sites on release day, and based on the number of downloads and ratings I saw, it was not a small number. But I do know I spent the weekend of my release issuing DMCA takedown notices and writing requests to Google to get the pirate sites excluded from search results. I contacted Amazon to let them know I'm being pirated, so hopefully I won't get kicked out of KU.
So that's what you did. For Amazon, it was a support ticket and a note on my file. For me, it was hours of work and a significant drop in my sales ranking, which means I not only lost the sales directly from the pirates, but all the possible sales I might have gotten if I had gotten a higher rank and stayed there longer.
And also: you risked getting my account deleted and destroying my dream career.
@JJGaut@SiddhantAdlakha@jessebluess Yeah totally. 15 years and good makeup is very different from 30, which is basically just a head replacement (without the benefit of all the references one might have pre-face scan era in Hollywood)
@SiddhantAdlakha@jessebluess They apparently wanted to de-age Cruise for the flashback in Dead Reckoning but found it wouldn't be convincing. That makes me curious whether they did it here or if they just worked around it creatively (or if it is, somehow, a deleted scene)
@resurrecti0ns schools may not teach people to read as well as they should, but they still teach you how to read! Also, reading books makes you a better reader!
Access to books: the library is free. bookstore clearance sections, garage sales, church sales, etc are great places to get books for
