Bishop Robert Barron has repeatedly warned about the rise of so-called "democratic socialism" in the United States.
New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani has emerged as one of the country's most prominent democratic socialists and has helped propel other Democratic Socialists to electoral victories in New York.
Similar candidates have also won primaries in Colorado, Washington, D.C., and elsewhere, signaling a broader shift on the political left.
Responding to Mamdani's remarks about "the warmth of collectivism," Bishop Barron issued a stark warning:
"Collectivism in its various forms is responsible for the deaths of at least one hundred million people in the last century. ... For God's sake, spare me the 'warmth of collectivism.'"
The bishop's concern is rooted in history. Karl Marx argued that religion had to be abolished for his revolutionary vision to succeed:
"The abolition of religion as the illusory happiness of the people is the demand for their real happiness."
Communist regimes inspired by Marxist ideology have persecuted religious believers across the world, and historical estimates attribute more than 100 million deaths to communist governments during the twentieth century.
Bishop Barron argues that collectivist ideologies ultimately undermine the dignity of the human person by subordinating the individual to the state or the collective, replacing God as society's highest authority.
The Church offers a different vision, one rooted in the dignity of every human person, objective moral truth, and the freedom that comes from God, not the state.
As Bishop Barron put it:
"What we have to fight for is a democratic civilization predicated upon objective moral value and finally upon God who presides over the very freedom that we exercise. Fight for that culture in entertainment and in politics and in communication and in every aspect of life. That is a cultural war worth fighting."
This competing vision of God, man, and human flourishing needs to be challenged before it takes deeper root.
CatholicVote is ready for that battle, especially at the ballot box. Join us in this fight for the soul of our nation. 👇

Today is the feast of St. Benedict, so I think of the great saint Benedict, the founder of monasticism and one of the central figures in civilization, especially in Christian history. I also think of Pope Benedict the XV, the pope during the first World War, and I think of Pope Benedict XVI! @thegnewsroom
Disney charges hundreds of dollars to see a fake castle and eat mid food at fine-dining prices.
@SpaceX lets you park next to the largest flying object in HUMAN HISTORY for free.
Choose wisely.
Senators John Fetterman (D) and Dave McCormick (R) of Pennsylvania have JOINED FORCES for fundraising as the Democrats are trying to push Fetterman out.
People are speculating Fetterman will cross the aisle and FLIP Pennsylvania red.
The “tolerant” Democrats have made their position VERY clear:
Unless you’re a Communist who hates America, you’re not welcome in the Democratic Party.
Based on strong positive feedback from customers in our beta test program, @SpaceXAI will make Grok 4.5 available to the public tomorrow.
It is an Opus-class model, but faster, more token-efficient and lower cost.

MILLIONS CAME TO SEE PADRE PIO’S BODY. THEY LEFT TALKING ABOUT HIS SOUL.
When Saint Padre Pio died on September 23, 1968, the world lost a humble Capuchin friar.
Heaven welcomed a saint.
Forty years later, his tomb was opened.
Many expected to find only bones.
Instead, they found a body that remained remarkably recognizable.
Photographs of his remains spread across the world, leaving many convinced they were looking at a perfectly incorrupt body.
But the truth is more beautiful than the headlines.
The Catholic Church has never declared Padre Pio’s body to be miraculously incorrupt. His body underwent natural decomposition, and a lifelike silicone mask was later placed over his face for public veneration. The famous images can easily give the wrong impression.
Yet none of that diminishes his sanctity.
Because Padre Pio’s greatest miracle was never what happened after he died.
It was how he lived before he died.
For fifty years, he bore the wounds of Christ in his own flesh.
He spent countless hours hearing Confessions, bringing sinners back to God’s mercy.
He celebrated every Holy Mass as though he were standing at the foot of the Cross.
He clung to the Holy Rosary, calling it “the weapon” against the powers of darkness.
He endured suffering, persecution, misunderstanding, and fierce spiritual battles without abandoning Christ.
His life preached one message:
Jesus Christ is worth everything.
His words continue to strengthen millions:
“Pray, hope, and don’t worry.”
Our generation is fascinated by extraordinary signs.
Padre Pio invites us to seek something greater.
Not extraordinary phenomena
Extraordinary holiness.
One day, your body and mine will also lie in silence.
Our wealth will remain behind.
Our achievements will be forgotten.
Our popularity will disappear.
Only one thing will matter:
Did we belong to Jesus Christ?
The saints are not remembered because they escaped death.
They are remembered because they were ready for it.
That is why Padre Pio still speaks to the world.
Not because his body amazed people
But because his soul belonged completely to Christ.
May we love the Holy Eucharist as he loved it.
May we run to Confession as he urged others to do.
May we pray the Holy Rosary with unwavering faith.
And when our final hour comes, may we be able to say with complete trust:
“Jesus, into Your hands I commend my spirit.”
Saint Padre Pio, pray for us. 🙏 ✝️
In the Santiago Bernabéu Stadium, the real grass is moved underground when the stadium hosts concerts and events.
This allows the field to stay healthy while the space transforms for huge crowds.
This is one of the top reasons my mom loves Trump — he understands the dangers of Communism.
She’s witnessed those dangers firsthand. Her grandparents owned a store in China, and died of starvation when the Communists took over.
It must never take hold in America.
American Preacher uses common sense to explain how far off track America has become
“If you can get arrested for hunting and fishing without a license, but you can enter this country and remain in this country illegally, you got a country run by idiots
If you have to get your parents' permission to go on a field trip and get an aspirin at school, but you don't have to get their permission to get an abortion, you got a country run by idiots
If you must show identification to board an airplane and cash a check and check out a library book, But you don't have to show identification to vote in our elections. You got a nation run by a bunch of idiots
If the government wants to prevent and they want to take our guns away and turn around and send F-16 fighter jets to our enemy countries, take our guns away and give ammunition to our enemy countries, you have a country run by idiots.
— If your government believes the best way to eradicate trillions of dollars in debt is to spend more trillions of dollars in debt, you got a country run by idiots.”

I’m still on a firecracker high from the Fourth of July! What I liked is that it revived that virtue of patriotism. I use that word purposely. Patriotism is a virtue. We’ve got to be careful, of course – the beauty of virtues is that they’re in the middle. There can be an extreme. We call that “nationalism,” which is a vice. Nationalism means we begin to deify our nation, and it takes the place of God. @thegnewsroom
