@GregHBurnham math/ML-talent Princeton undergrad to wasting 2-3 years in Bridgwater fake talent eval thing is an unfortunately common pipeline (which I may or may not have saved Leopold from by going at him in one of the group debates)
This is extremely low-trust, exploitative behavior by Facebook. The R&D tax credit and expensing for capex are good policies on net, but this is blatant gaming and should be punished harshly.
This make me update towards skewing the credit more towards smaller businesses. There is no way these data centers are used only for research!
In the summer of 2024, an employee at Meta had a daring idea to save the company billions of dollars on its A.I. data centers: Claim they were 'experimental' to tap a lucrative tax credit meant to inspire companies to tackle novel challenges.

@anselmlevskaya sympathetic to this view (especially in the near term) that natural pandemics way more likely than engineered (though tbf I do more science policy than bio). presumably this falls to USDA purview and pressure on them is most productive?
@mary_clare_m yeah, New START renewal non-engagement is also an example. also a big difference between normie threat models (cyber, bio) vs. threat models of the ~only pacing crowd (loss of control, gradual disempowerment)
