As severe weather moved through New York City Saturday evening, FDNY members responded to multiple storm-related emergencies across the city.
At approximately 7:46 p.m., units responded to reports of debris falling from scaffolding near Pier 6 in Brooklyn Bridge Park. While operating at the scene, members were alerted to a person in the water nearby. FDNY Engine 224 quickly relocated to the waterfront, where members lowered a firefighter into the water and deployed portable ladders to assist with the rescue.
Working together, members safely removed the individual from the water and also assisted a second civilian who had entered the water in an effort to help the victim.
The FDNY commends the quick actions and teamwork of the members operating and reminds New Yorkers to remain alert during severe weather emergencies.
