We are deeply saddened to learn of the passing of Barry Melrose.

Barry played parts of two seasons with Detroit and was a Calder Cup-winning coach with the Adirondack Red Wings. He would go on to have an immeasurable impact on the entire hockey world as a beloved TV analyst.

Our heartfelt condolences go out to the Melrose family and all who knew Barry. ❤️

A big, big thank you to the owners of the Detroit Tigers, the Ilitch family, for taking care of my family during the Tigers vs. Dodgers series this weekend. My family said that the food and experience at Comerica Park were absolutely spectacular!

I also want to thank the Ilitch family for revitalizing downtown Detroit - between Comerica Park and Little Caesars Arena (home to the Red Wings and Pistons), they’ve brought so much life back to the city and created thousands of jobs along the way. And by the way, I never got the chance to tell them that I grew up eating Little Caesars pizza!

Rest in Peace. A true American icon. I was having lunch by myself this afternoon at Nate and Al ( Not exactly a bastion for country music.) when the news broke of Dolly's passing. All of the conversations I overheard consisted of people commenting on what a wonderful human being she was. It was perspective we all need especially in the music business. There was no mention of her 11 Grammy awards, honorary Oscar, countless ACM or CMA awards nor of the 100,000 million records she sold over a 7 decade career. It was about the person she was and how she always gave back and remembered her roots. A true unifying force and someone irreplaceable by all standards.

Today marks a year since Dead and Company played our last of three shows in Golden Gate Park helping to celebrate 60 years of @GratefulDead . It would also become Bob Weir’s last appearance onstage. I wanted to take a moment to share with you just how incredible those concerts really were. Bobby’s insistence on standing on that stage in the midst of a complex health battle to perform nine hours of music over three nights was one of the greatest acts of heroism I will ever see in my lifetime. I watched him sidestep every traditional burden of entertainers - ego, superficial pride, vanity, to name a few - and sing his songs with pure heart and grit. He transcended his physical limitations by ignoring them. Bobby Weir, ever the contrarian, laid down his ultimate act of defiance; he was going to play these shows on his terms. He could have explained his situation in one online post, and the crowd would have lifted him like a giant wave up to glory. Fuck that. That wasn’t Bobby. Deal the cards. By the end of Sunday night, we’d created as many musical sparks as we ever had over a three night run. What he had to overcome in order to pull that off won’t ever be fully known to anyone. Some of the songs Bobby would play for the last time were shared with artists he loved and respected, @BillyStrings , #sturgillsimpson, #grahamelesh, @treyanastasio , and they’ve come to serve as a spiritual transfer. A blur between past, present and future. Like it’s always been. To use his own term, those three nights were the star in Bob Weir’s heavenly crown. The man you loved, whose music has given a more expansive inner life to us all, never backed down. In his final shows, after 60 years, he lived up to every measure of a person he’d ever stood for. It’s a master class of a life lesson, and I’ll take it with me forever.

Re-watching this is on my weekend to-do list. Wings-Avs in the late 90s/early 2000s is legendary for many reasons, but what made it especially rare was the fact we KNEW how extraordinary it was as it was happening.
