The 1860 platform: leave slavery alone where it exists, AND the territories stay free. The Confederacy wrote slavery into its territories. Non-interference was never the dispute.

Feb 11, 1861: seven states had already seceded and the Confederacy existed. Congress promised not to touch slavery in the states and they left anyway. Your own receipt sinks you.
