I was happy to share the excitement of being inducted today into the National Academy of Medicine @theNAMedicine with fellow class of 2024 members Paola Arlotta (noted stem cell biologist @ArlottaLab) and Tina Stankovic (chair of ENT @StanfordMed), and neurosurgeons Robert Martuza (a great mentor and sponsor from @MGBneurosurgery) and Robert Friedlander (friend and chair of Neurosurgery @PittNeurosurg). We shared memories of our early days together @MGHNeurosurg and the varied and unique scientific journeys that brought us to the National Academy of Medicine. A special day for me to be with these friends, and congrats to all those inducted today!

Three Michigan Medicine doctors have been selected and recognized by Crain’s Detroit Business for being notable leaders in health care technology.
H.D. Humes, M.D., a nephrologist at U-M, successfully treated a child in severe septic shock and multiorgan failure using a Selective Cytopheretic Device, a new therapeutic tool he helped develop and received emergency approval to use in the case.
@ToddCHollon , M.D., developed FastGlioma and DeepGlioma, two AI-based tools that improve the detection of residual brain tumors and rapidly screen for genetic mutations, respectively, with an average accuracy of more than 90%.
And @matthew_willsey, M.D., Ph.D., and his team completed the first in-human recording from a novel, wireless brain-computer interface, the Connexus BCI by Paradromics Inc., which was implanted during a temporal lobectomy and aims to restore functions lost due to injury or disease.
