@NateCarrPP22 @hypeforhobbes I like the idea of having a vote on non-essentials. Ofc with having clearly and reasonably defined essentials. Probably something along the lines of food, housing, education. #PP22
Is a stadium necessary enough to put tax money into? Is education necessary enough? The general argument here seems to be that we should be putting tax money into things that benefit us, but the things that benefit us are not all the same. #PP22
I don't know whether I'm team stadium or education, but it's also important to note that edu is something that money has to be continually poured into, whereas the stadium is built then done. Ofc there's maintenance, but it won't cost as much as edu long run #PP22
#PP22 wether or not the higher powers actually do act and spend in our best interests is debatable, like the stadium vs education, but it's just how the system naturally evolved.
#PP22 And because we all live different lives and benefit from different things, the best system, or rather, the most natural system which we have right now is to let a higher power divide the tax spending pool for us with the expectation that they act in the best interests.
@caputisp21#PP22 now that I think about it, yeah I don't think a state has ever been established about bloodshed. May say a thing or two about our nature.
@suhaanoor #PP22 I agree. It may not be because you agree with the act, but there are many other factors. Are you able to make a difference? Will you be hurt in the process? Is it worth it?
@NateCarrPP22 @Princesesa_Iman @UBXenos #PP22 this just got me thinking how tied to culture "morals" are. Some cultures of the past found it acceptable to sacrifice children for whatever reason or selling children as slaves. There is so much context around what is moral.
@Isabell70895241#PP22 how I interpret this is that we want justice, but we also want the image of justice because it looks good. It's interesting he makes this distinction though because what is a situation that is just but does not look it?
@Lawrenc51239184#PP22 I agree, and iirc, Hobbes addressed this, saying that bad sovereigns are to be overthrown or face whatever consequence the populace has to throw
@schlurmo@StarChen24 But if everyone got the food they needed, the population would grow until we reach an equilibrium with population and our food production. #PP22
@ppdood67 @WiesmoreJames@Lawrenc51239184 In this case, if everyone was helping random needy children using their own resources, the best move is to not help any child because you reap the benefits and get to keep your resources. #PP22
@ppdood67 @WiesmoreJames@Lawrenc51239184 Because we come back to the four square (iforgotthename) problem. If everyone is helping others, the best position for you to be in is to not do anything, because that way you reap the biggest benefit.
