It's been a while since I've had time to write on my blog (new job, holidays, Olympics and lots of running!) but I'm back with a write up from last week's 3000m at the Hampshire Track & Field Champs!

@jecargar@Scienceofsport The mixed tri relay was awesome! But again, the order was fixed (FMFM) so generally was comparable (ish). Looks like the swimming was in stroke order so could put M or F depending on who you wanted for each stroke & that’s why you can see the difference above!
@Scienceofsport - rarely do men race women. But the first leg of the mixed medley relay (where athletes go in any order) is pretty much ‘a picture paints a thousand words’ of all you guys talk about re. the effects of testosterone. Difference between men & women for leg 1.
@Scienceofsport 100% agree. Just struck me how obvious it was visually and not just in the numbers. I think the difference is less clear though at the end of rhe race as essentially the fourth athletes have all started at different times. Makes for great racing though because it can all change!
@BBCNews mark Cavendish made history today. Why is he not mentioned on the bbc news homepage? His personal achievement is far greater than a song making it back into the top 10. It is also more important than something Harry Kane has said. Please recognise it.

@Scienceofsport@Scienceofsport thanks for a great podcast. A follow up question - what are the physiological implications of a separate category for transwomen? Does that have the same implication of leading to 18 Olympic champions as we would need many categories to balance fairness/safety?
The power of sport to improve Londoners’ physical and mental health can be transformative.
As COVID-19 restrictions ease and London reopens, let’s support the safe return of community sport initiatives like @parkrunUK that improve Londoners’ health and wellbeing.
Thank you @Scienceofsport and @MikeFinchSA for fighting to protect women’s sport. As a runner I don’t face the safety issues that exist in rugby, so I think everyone should be welcome in training. But the line needs to be protected in competition. #WomensRightsAreHumanRights

No no no! Please do not let it be that I could dance in a nightclub squashed in with hundreds of other drunk people before I can go for a run in the park. @BorisJohnson @SouthamptonCC @parkrunUK #loveparuk https://t.co/GFbAS6Mugr
I do not need a great box opening experience @Timberland. Send me a pair of laces in an envelope to save on packaging, the environment and cost. Ridiculous box for a tiny pair of laces #environment#oversizedpackaging
