The Be Prime data breach on April 15, 2026, ignited a fierce campaign of asymmetric warfare between Mexican cybersecurity firm Be Prime and independent Uruguayan researcher Alberto Daniel Hill. The conflict began when Be Prime suffered a massive attack exposing over 53 GB of sensitive client data, including 10 GB of databases and unprotected AWS S3 buckets. Instead of demonstrating transparency, Be Prime issued a hostile press release threatening legal action for "defamation" against journalists, whistleblowers, and researchers who discussed the breach. The Escalation and Passed DeadlineIn response to this corporate intimidation, Hill launched the "Time is Due" campaign, issuing an open letter to Be Prime's leadership with a strict deadline of 18:00 Mexico Time (6:00 PM) on April 17. He demanded the company retract its legal threats and correct its press release, backing his ultimatum by mobilizing a coalition of major international digital rights organizations, including the Electronic Frontier Foundation (EFF), Reporters Without Borders (RSF), and Amnesty International. Be Prime maintained total silence and let the deadline pass. Because they failed to retract their threats, Hill triggered several asymmetric retaliatory actions: Formal Legal Action: Hill officially filed a complaint against Be Prime with the Mexican transparency authorities for presumed violations of the Federal Law on Protection of Personal Data Held by Private Parties (LFPDPPP), submitting evidence of their massive 53 GB data exposure.
