This isnât just happening to us, itâs being done to us.
By fossil fuel companies and the governments who enable them.
Australia has 100+ major fossil projects under development that will add billions of tonnes of emissions to our atmosphere. https://t.co/mWwwfmKXl2
For the record, itâs absolutely true that sometimes, women donât come forward with rape allegations until they see that a specific person has also been accused by someone else.
Yet doing this has always been framed by rape apologists as evidence the woman is lying, because they like to claim women engage in âcopy-catâ accusations against men for fame and profit.
In fact, itâs unheard of for a woman to profit in any tangible way from a rape accusation, and the vast majority are damaged for life from taking this action.
The real reason many women donât come forward until theyâve heard about an accusation made by someone else is because:
- they honestly think nobody will believe them unless thereâs more than one victim (and in most cases, theyâre right);
- they havenât been able to find the courage to report until they believe they may find solidarity with one or more other women who experienced the same;
- theyâre embarrassed about aspects of what they did the day they were raped (such as being drunk, wearing a short skirt, having consensual sex before they were raped, going to a manâs home or workplace alone, or walking home alone at night) because women are conditioned from birth to blame themselves for rape, and they canât overcome this shame until somebody else with the same attacker manages to do so;
- they havenât even been able to correctly frame what happened to them as rape (because doing this is so traumatic), and it isnât until they hear the same man has been accused by someone else that theyâre able to face or confront their own experience truthfully; and/or
- they believe they were raped but were drunk, drugged or otherwise incapacitated when it happened, and while their trauma is still extreme theyâre not 100% sure about what occurred until that same or a similar scenario is voiced by someone else.
All those reasons are valid, and none mean the woman is lying. In fact, since the incidence of rape and sexual assault is so high (at least one in three women) and rape convictions are so rare (only around 1 to 2 percent of accusers), any woman would frankly have to be out of her mind to make an untrue accusation, even if there were one or more other victims.
Remember how many victims Bill Cosby had before they were believed?
FIFTY.
How many for Jimmy Saville?
HUNDREDS.
So being one woman amongst a small handful gives a person only a small extra chance of a conviction, and even then thereâs nothing in it for her.
Nothing, that is, except the opportunity to have her character, dress sense, sobriety (or lack of it), financial status, sexual history, phone/email records, work ethic, other relationships and/or reputation for honesty publicly dragged through the courts.
And possibly even then sued for defamation for good fucking measure.
In coming weeks, more women will come forward about Russell Brand.
And more women will come forward about rapists everywhere (including, soon, at least one high-profile one in Australia) and all of them will be disbelieved, attacked and vilified in ways most of us canât even imagine if it were to happen to us.
Our job is to support them, at least as much as these shitfucked men have traditionally been supported, enabled and openly lied about by so many people for so fucking long.
We need to be ready.
PS: Never was a quote like the one below more wrong, because never was a man protected and helped for so fucking long by all those around him (including the police) who always and forever saw a famous person as omnipotent and his women victims as dirt under their feet.
It has to fucking stop.

If Ron DeSantis were concerned about migrants who REALLY are bringing crime to Florida, apparently there is a family he might round up in Palm Beach. I can give him the address if he needs it.
