The ONS reckons (it’s still deciding how to collect proper official data on the sector) that UK higher education as a whole exported £25.6bn a year in 2020 despite the pandemic, more than exports of pharmaceuticals, or aerospace

No. What you're seeing is a fundamental disagreement between people attempting to justify racist rioting and others who think spreading hate and making people (H/T @BBCr4today this morning) feel terror in their own homes is utterly wrong and wholly unjustifiable
GB News complaining that nobody from the Government will talk to them any more, just seconds after falsely telling their viewers that Keir Starmer has been "labelling anyone concerned about immigration as far right".
These are just some of the tweets that were put out by GB News presenter Darren Grimes in the run up to the general election.
The same channel that is now accusing the left of inflaming racial tensions in the UK

"Repeated and urgent counsel that far-right extremists were exploiting gaps in the law to foment violence on social media were ignored while top-rank politicians... sought to gain advantage by waging culture wars" -Sunak's former anti-extremism adviser https://t.co/VAspTPFh2s
@NJ_Timothy If you want to engage with a wider audience can I suggest not just writing in a paper that seems to specialise these days in demonising anyone its owners / editors disagree with ?
A reminder that the last Conservative Government published a review just last year claiming that there had been "too much focus" on tackling threats from the far-right.
Arriving on campus 10 mins ago i overheard a contractor (NB not warwick staff) pleading with someone on the phone NOT to go to a “protest” today “they are evil and you could fuck your life up” ….
"Politicians saw privatisation and private infrastructure as a way to get access to a big bucket of money...in fact, the failures of privatisation are numerous and obvious."
Sound familiar? An Australian perspective on the scam of privatisation🇦🇺

Arrested rioters are about to find out that, when they are alone in their cells, Elon Musk, Nigel Farage, Isabel Oakeshot, Richard Tice and the staff at GB News won't come out to help them and their families. They'll be safe and secure at home while you do time
A reminder
After the Aug 2011 riots, police & my prosecutors examined all the video evidence for MONTHS identifying & bringing offenders to justice - 1000s of them
Some didn’t get arrested till a year later!
Prison was the usual sentence
My boss was someone called Keir Starmer
"Stand in your capital to show concern about the state of Britain? That's far right. Protest after the murder of children? Far right. Suggest we leave foreign courts so we can control our borders? Far right. Call to lower immigration? Far right. Point to grooming gangs? Far right. Vote for Reform? Far right. Sing a song about England? Far right. Fly the flag? Far right. It's really not hard to see why millions of ordinary people are fed up"

Remarkable that Labour have reached the hubris stage after just a month in power and while the country faces its biggest civil disorder for many years.
Their apparent belief that the Conservatives can be 'destroyed' is also remarkable. Of course in the worst case (which I think very unlikely) we could be replaced by another party on the Right, but I don't think that is what Starmer means. Rather, it reflects something more scary: his belief, and that of so many in Labour, that there is no actual need for opinions on the right in British politics, even that there is something illegitimate about such opinions, and if the opportunity arises British politics could, and should, be reconfigured as a set of debates between various formations of the centre-Left.
The BBC says: “Protesters target mosque”. Can you imagine saying “Protesters target synagogue? These are criminals. By platforming Farage, Oakeshott, Tice, Goodwin etc, the BBC normalised the far right. Now it legitimises them as so called “protesters” https://t.co/yofMbolcM5
