Director of The National Centre for Strategic Leadership at Babington Group. Player in Engagement Task Force. Passionate about Leadership. My views only.
Good to see the report and it was a pleasure to add my leadership bits. Hope it gets some traction in the sector and beyond. @cmi_managers@_Babington@nigelgirling2
Launching today - People Insight's Financial services report. Find out if your company culture is helping your employees perform. Thanks to our Steering Group members - Fiona Anderson, Nigel Girling and Sally Tanner for contributions! https://t.co/s8OPZDLdec #EmployeeEngagement
Well Gary, it was a game of two halves really. We come out strong early doors but they pegged us back with their 5-3-7-21 formation... oh sorry, wrong interview...
The film crew have just caught up with @nigelgirling2 ahead of his talk this afternoon. If you'd like a sneak preview of what he's going to be covering, check this out https://t.co/gX0wFeinUB #SheShowNE
Some leaders inspire by who they are, some by what they stand for, some through their passion and enthusiasm, some by their compelling vision. Which one fits you best?
A subtle but significant difference that changes everything in terms of engagement, empowerment, collaboration, ideas and performance... not a bad return for just getting over yourself and remembering it's all about them not you...
"Nearly 70% of our people are disconnected...from their organisation, their job, their leaders" "We've sleepwalked into a #Productivity Crisis" @nigelgirling2#SheShowNE
Great to deliver the opening speech at CMI Conference on Friday to a sellout crowd. A real buzz in the room and a desire to sweep away some of the old ways of managing in favour of real leadership that engages, inspires, empowers and develops great people
Thanks Richard. I see so many managers & leaders trying to keep control of everything for fear of risk, fear of failure, fear of criticism from above. It dis-empowers, dis-engages and dis-appoints. Good people need freedom, support and encouragement from their leaders.
@NBS_PG @cmi_managers Thanks Alex... for the record, everyone said 'No'.... yet so many organizations (and managers) are fairly run-of-the-mill.... makes you wonder what's going wrong, doesn't it?! We need leaders at every level who can inspire, and we need them right now!
Listened to BBC Breakfast as usual today. Quickly irritated by the piece on Brexit's impact on the UK. A marginal voter, I'm annoyed by all 'sides' in this media-driven debate. This chat with academics and students (what version of the 'horse's mouth' is that?) summed it up. Doh!
Absolutely. Our news media are always more interested in provocative soundbites than either the truth or aiding understanding. The shallow level of understanding that news editors have of any business topic is staggering. The times they are a -changin' though... onward & upward
Short term, share value driven capitalism is neither sustainable or inclusive. But FTSE dominates political airtime & mainstream business media. Innovative models of shared ownership can only grow with support of heavy weight business champions, politicians & media. Whoโs in??
@giamswiegers@tom_peters It's an uphill battle Tom! Too many senior people with a spreadsheet for a brain and a calculator for a heart. My granddad used to say "Genius wilts in the face of persistence"... so we keep on keeping on...
I agree absolutely. It's indicative of the challenge that it's taken this long for us to even get to here. Not quite 'free at last', but maybe some glimmers of light... https://t.co/TGke82vCKR
