5 children ill after playing in the Thames; an unwell Kayaker; a rower who couldn't sit some of his GCSEs due to E coli.
Meanwhile, publicly owned Eau de Paris has opened up the Seine for swimmers.
Enough is enough. End the disaster of privatised water now.
Well done @RiverActionUK for your work co-ordinating legal complaints against Thames Water! https://t.co/oH9alS9Fgl
England's water industry and govt put put inflated numbers about the cost of nationalisation.
I asked the Minister to explain the social cost of leaving water in private ownership. It is likely to be over £1 trillion by 2050. Question was notified in advance.
Watch his reply.
"Southern Water under fire for falsely reporting 100-hour sewage release at Tankerton, near Whitstable."
@SouthernWater claim that 100 hour sewage dumping of Tankerton beach as an IT glitch. Yea, right, how many times have we heard that one?

These are the people who blocked the swift brick amendment last night. 102 Labour Peers thanks to the rather extreme 3 line whip which just goes to show how much #Labour do NOT want to help nature let alone swifts. Normally a 3 line whip is used for fairly extreme amendments.
'Almost as if these people are blithering idiots.'
A Reform-led council says it's unable to put up Christmas lights because the England flags on the lamp posts pose 'a safety risk'.
James O'Brien and caller Simon can't help but laugh.
As yes the old double the cost of the sewage works trick.
Water companies have a terrible and rather regular habit of doing this, cost of Cambridge new sewage works went from £400 million to £700 million and guess who was been asked to pay for it all?
Just ask the good people of Witney in Oxfordshire.

"Water bills to rise again for millions of households."
Yep, just when you thought they's screwed you enough already they're coming back for more and get it.....

No apology yet I see from @DefraGovUK about wilfully misleading the public with their totally made up, totally facetious, economically illiterate, "We are not looking at nationalisation because it would cost over £100 billion of public money", bullish*t.
The People’s Commission found that the £100bn figure is "serious scaremongering and based on biased evidence".

"What’s really in the water at Lake Windermere?."
So the @EnvAgency take one sample per week for 4 months at each of Windermere's 4 designated bathing sites and rate them as "Excellent".
Citizen scientists took more than a 1,000 samples from the lake over two and a half years and found harmful levels of bacteria so high that many of the sites sampled would be rated "Poor". 🤔

In case you missed it in one of its last dying breaths before being axed Ofwat has allowed water companies to double, yes double the amount they pay back on their steaming piles of debt from £11,057,000,000 in 2019 - 2024 to £22,047,000,000 in 2025 - 2030.
And guess who gets to pay for every damn penny of it.
So @AnglianWater has been fined £62.8 million for illegally dumping their sewage into the environment.
In an act of self-pity CEO Mark Thurston, said: “We understand the need to rebuild trust with customers and that aspects of our performance need to improve to do that."
Would that by any chance be the same Mark Thurston who was formerly CEO of that other great British success story HS2? Well of course it would. "Trebles all round."

@Keir_Starmer Please bring it back into public ownership so that we can ensure that people and environment are considered ahead of making profits for a greedy few 🙏
"Serious pollution by water companies rose by 60 per cent last year."
Now how's all that banning bonuses thing, all that sending people to jail thing working out for you? What a totally waste of time.
Time to put someone serious in charge.
