The crazy part of Wizards promos being so bad isn't how much they could increase tournament EV by improving them (which they could), but the absurd amount of free advertising they are missing out on. I follow exclusively Magic players and some days most of my timeline is talk of Riftbound promos.
Being expensive is surly driving the conversation, but it's sort of like Riftbound and One Piece get a mini-version of the 1 of 1 Ring hype happening constantly. The advertising value seems super high, and Wizards seems to be almost completely missing out on it as the Magic community memes on Laughing Jasper Flint or whatever the latest lackluster promo happened to be.
I am glad that my last post on Thursday about the RCQ system reopened the discussion. It went viral (over 100K views) and more importantly, many people added their voices.
I hope that @PlayMTG will notice.
At the end of the day, we want the competitive scene to flourish.
For many players, PWPs gave a reason to participate in tournaments. Unlike ratings, you had nothing to lose by losing, and your points simply increased just by playing, which was very positive.
Since you could earn points even when you lost, having those accumulated points give you an advantage in competitive events might seem problematic, but the bye system using PWPs at the time did not seem particularly problematic.
Collecting PWPs in pursuit of promos, getting RCs by using those points along the way, and then entering RCs and discovering the fun of competitive play.
Wouldn't this flow serve as an opportunity to bring people back to competitive Magic, and ultimately bring vitality back to Standard?
What’s stopping WotC from putting €50+ cards in as Promos? What’s the downside of making Quantum Riddler type cards prizes? The whole point of Promos should be to increase the value of event prizes. If a Promo becomes a €50 chase card, who is actually losing value?
I’ve just been invited to the FaB World Championship via the Top 25 Europe Leaderboard, thanks to my performances at Callings & Showdowns this year! I’m so happy to be part of an OP system that rewards players for actually attending events and performing consistently, rather than focusing solely on Pro Tour results. #fabtcg
The most useful thing I've learned about food mastery is that eating bad things is never, ever worth it. You never feel good after. Only regret. Once you fully internalize this, you can simulate the experience and then muster the power to overcome the primal desire.
Why this is a big deal:
this mRNA therapy instructs the body to produce the specific fingerprints of the person's tumor and trains the immune system to hunt and kill it.
First time in a Phase 3 trial.
One way cancer grows is by hiding from the immune system and turning off attacking T-cells. This mRNA therapy provides the tumor's genetic fingerprint so that the immune system can train T-cells to identify the cancer. Keytruda then removes the brakes that cancer had put on the T-cells enabling them to eliminate the cancer.
I think some people coming into Magic from other TCG's really struggle to understand how different the culture is. For most of the community Magic is a game first rather than a collectable. There's some overlap, of course, but it's a very different world than Pokémon.
Poker pro here. I make bets for a living.
This is the correct logic applied incorrectly.
The reason insurance exists is because people can’t afford the variance.
That’s the only reason you buy insurance, which is a losing proposition for the consumer.
The only reason you don’t take a positive expectation bet, like the one he proposed is if you can’t afford the loss.
Most can afford $100 swing. Not taking the bet isn’t mere loss aversion, it’s a failure to understand when to play the game in the first place.

We are accustomed to thinking that we build things, when actually the thing we build probably shapes us more.
Good reminder to focus on things that you want to personally become.
