🙏🏾 Hard work, luck and working with and for great people.

In 2020 I quit teaching science, got a grant from @The_JDF and retrained at @SalfordUni in Broadcast Journalism.

The journey started earlier than that after coming through BBC New Voices and being given a chance at @BBCRadioManc.

In the pandemic when work exp opportunities were limited, I started my own radio station @RadioNorthenden and I wrote about Bury AFC for @BuryTimes for free.

At BBC local radio I made a podcast series, match reported, was the breakfast show reporter and then presented BBC Squad Goals across the network.

There are no shortcuts. But use any opportunity to gain as much experience as possible.

Key people, at key times have given me a chance, and even a second chance. Without them and having them in my corner none this would have happened. And then, you’ve just got to go for it.

Learn everything you can from your colleagues, they’ll often know more than you.

Park your ego.

Ask for feedback and understand how to get better. Go over your work and see what you’d change.

Prepare, keep positive, be proactive, build resilience, prepare some more and don’t expect anything to be given to you.

Try new things, try to park the fear of whether you’re liked or not. Be kind, be yourself, find joy in what you’re doing and back yourself.
