Don't lie about your experience. Not in your resume, not in applications, not in conversations with projects, not in interviews.
Sooner or later, it will come out. And the price you'll pay will be much higher than if you'd just told the truth from the start.
I see this every day:
"Was a core contributor in project X" — when in reality you just minted NFTs or farmed points.
"Led a team of 10 people" — when you were a junior developer for 2 months.
"Grew an audience to 100k" — when it's actually 5k bots and 2k real followers.
"Worked with investors and KOLs" — when you just DM'd them "hey, check out my project."
"Have experience in DeFi/RWA/GameFi" — when your "experience" is watching YouTube videos and doing a couple of swaps.
Why do people do this? Because it feels like "everyone embellishes a bit, otherwise you won't get hired," "a little lie is fine," "the main thing is to get in, and I'll figure it out later."
It's not fine. And you won't figure it out.
What happens when the lie is exposed:
On a technical interview, they ask 2–3 specific questions — and you're lost in a minute.
They check your GitHub / old posts / channel stats — and see it's empty or fake.
In crypto, everything spreads fast: one screenshot in chats — and you're remembered as "the one who lied."
The project/company wastes time on checks, then feels deceived — and closes the door not just to you, but sometimes to your entire "friend team."
You rob yourself of a real chance: they might have hired you with "I don't have much experience yet, but I'm ready to learn and grind every day."
Truth always works better.
When someone writes honestly:
"Limited experience: did personal projects, participated in communities, farmed airdrops, but want to grow in a real team"
"Audience is still 1–3k, but engagement is high — ready to create content daily"
"Was an active participant in Y, helped newcomers, but no official role"
— it builds trust. Teams look for exactly that: real people with drive to grow, not a "perfect resume" full of fake achievements.
In crypto/Web3, reputation is everything. One lie can close doors for years. One truth can open them forever.
Be honest about your experience. It's not a weakness. It's your strongest position in the long run.
