Most freelance SEOs and consultants massively underprice themselves because they have no framework for what to charge.

My current rate is $2,499/hour, and I get dozens of calls every month...

Here's the exact pricing structure I'd use if I were starting a BRAND NEW freelance SEO business tomorrow:
- Discovery/Audit: One-time fee
- Small site (under 50 pages): $500-1,000
- Medium site (50-500 pages): $1,500-3,000
- Large site (500+ pages): $3,000-7,500
This is your foot in the door. deliver something so good they'd feel stupid NOT hiring you for the retainer.

Monthly Retainer: Based on revenue impact, not hours
- Local business (one location, 5-10 keywords): $750-1,500/mo
- National SMB (50-100 keywords): $2,000-4,000/mo
- Ecommerce (500+ SKUs): $3,500-7,500/mo
- Competitive verticals (iGaming, finance, legal, SaaS): $5,000-15,000/mo

The rule I always follow: Your monthly retainer should be less than 10% of the revenue you're going to generate for them.

If you can show a client you'll generate $50k/mo in organic revenue, a $5k/mo retainer is a no-brainer for both sides.

What's should be included (use this as a template):
- Monthly link building (specify number of placements)
- Content strategy + briefs (they produce or you produce, price accordingly)
- Onpage optimization for priority pages
- Monthly reporting with revenue attribution
- One strategy call per month or quarter

What's NOT included (protect your time):
- Website development or design changes
- Paid ads management
- Social media management
- "Quick favours" for other departments

The biggest mistake freelancers make is pricing by the hour, the second you quote an hourly rate, the client starts counting your hours instead of measuring your results.

Price by value, deliver by results.

Never let someone put a stopwatch on your expertise.
