Cinque anni fa, oggi, se ne andava Libero De Rienzo. Credo che sia importante scriverne e ricordarlo per ragioni diverse. Innanzitutto per l'attore straordinario che era e che, grazie ai film in cui ha recitato, è ancora: questa sua indolenza leggera, mai morbosa, questa sua ironia sospesa e caustica; questa sua capacità straordinaria di evocare con un gesto, una strizzata d'occhio o una scrollata di spalle, una sofferenza enorme, inclassificabile, impossibile da contenere con le parole; e poi la saggezza pratica della messa in scena, dell'essere sé stesso mentre era chiamato a interpretare qualcos'altro.

De Rienzo era un talento raro, fumantino, irrequieto. Ed elegantissimo. Mi ricordo di certe chiacchierate, dopo una presentazione di diversi anni fa del primo Smetto quando voglio di Sydney Sibilia, in cui si parlava di lui e del modo in cui fumava e teneva la sigaretta. Sembrano piccole cose, e forse lo sono. Eppure danno un'idea più o meno precisa del fuoco che si celava sotto i carboni ardenti e che lo riempiva. È importante ricordarlo e parlarne perché De Rienzo, con la sua carriera, era riuscito a tracciare un percorso preciso, forse per certe cose altalenante, fatto di libertà e consapevolezza, di carica emotiva e padronanza fisica.

Era un fuoriclasse, De Rienzo. Un fuoriclasse di movimenti e intenzioni, di poesia e ferocia. Potrei fare l'ennesimo elenco dei film in cui ha recitato e delle cose che ha fatto, ma non credo che sia il caso. E non perché siano film e cose che non meritano di essere citati. Ma perché oltre a tutto, oltre al singolo progetto e alla singola interpretazione, rimane sempre lui, sempre De Rienzo, sempre Picchio.

Un bravo attore è quell'attore che si infila tra le pieghe della storia, si affida alla regia e alla sceneggiatura, crede in quello che fa, e ciò nonostante riesce a rimanere sé stesso. Non completamente nascosto ma comunque riconoscibile. Perché ci mette del suo, in quello che dice e nei gesti che compie. Perché attinge alla sua vita prima ancora che al copione. E può sembrare un miracolo, una specie di magia. Ma alla fine la verità è solo una: la recitazione è un gioco. E De Rienzo era un grande, grandissimo giocatore.

Denial of the existence of gas chambers is a disgraceful assault on the memory of all those people murdered in them: mainly Jews, but also Poles, Roma, Soviet prisoners of war, and all others. Our daughter, Rachel Corrie, was killed in 2003 in Gaza, while trying to protect a Palestinian home facing illegal destruction by the Israeli military. She was 23 years old. The massive, armored Caterpillar D-9 bulldozer that crushed her was operated by two Israeli soldiers and manufactured in the United States. It was the same type of militarized bulldozer that US presidents from George W. Bush through to Donald Trump have delivered to Israel.
Today, as the destruction of Palestinian homes has only become more commonplace, not to mention the horror of Israel’s genocide, Senator Bernie Sanders will force a vote in the Senate to try to end this cycle of death by banning the transfer of D-9 bulldozers to Israel. We hope he will not take this stand alone.
No policy can bring back those taken from us by these actions—children and other loved ones. But the Senate now has an opportunity to honor the memories of our daughter, other Americans, and thousands of Palestinian civilians killed, and to show that their deaths, and all the destruction, will no longer be condoned and funded. We hope those elected to represent us, the American people, understand the message that voting to block these D-9 bulldozers will send. This will not be a symbolic gesture, but a concrete step toward the protection of human life.
