Before modern multinational banks reached Southeast Asia, merchants from 75 villages in Tamil Nadu had already built a transnational financial system.
They financed rice in Burma, rubber in Malaya, retail in Singapore, plantations in Ceylon — connected not by contracts but by kinship and reputation.
This is the story of the Chettiars.🧵
Despite repeated advisories from multiple state agencies, including SLCERT, it appears that little to no structured SEO work was undertaken for the official Fuel Pass website.
The unintended consequence is citizens searching for the platform via Google can easily be misdirected to look-alike or compromised sites. In an environment where phishing infrastructure can be spun up within minutes, it materially increases cyber risk.
More broadly, this points to a deeper issue. Digital literacy across the population remains uneven. While some users instinctively verify URLs and navigate directly to official domains, many others will simply “Google it.” That behavioural reality must be factored into public digital service design.

A Nation Mourns Its Heroes
Our armed forces have always stood as the silent, steadfast guardians of our nation, serving every Sri Lankan, without distinction of race, religion, region, or ethnicity.
North or South, East or West, in moments of crisis they never ask who needs help, only how quickly they can respond.
From war to pandemics, from tsunamis to floods, they have been the first to step forward… and too often, the first to sacrifice.
Today, we bow our heads in grief and gratitude as we remember the five brave Sri Lanka Navy personnel who perished in Chundikkulam while carrying out a flood-relief mission to save civilians.
They did not hesitate. They did not hold back. They placed the lives of others above their own, the highest expression of duty, courage, and humanity.
Their service was not for a community, a province, or a group.
It was for Sri Lanka 🇱🇰
for all of us.
These young men gave their tomorrow so that others may live today.
They are not just sailors.
They are not just uniformed officers.
They are real heroes.
May their courage inspire us.
May their sacrifice unite us.
And may a grateful nation salute them ,
with pride, with love, and with eternal respect.
In your honour, we stand together as one Sri Lankan nation. 🙏🇱🇰
