@WatcherontheWeb I'm about 90% certain that's exactly what happened. "This says I go to prison if I release this." "It's been cleared." "I refuse. HEY EVERYONE, THE GOV'T JUST TRIED TO SET ME UP!" "Okay. I'll post it myself." "... Well, don't I feel stupid. I better publicly admit that."
@TheKingOfStank Arcade game from the 90s, if not earlier. Area 51. Aliens have broken containment and it's your job to kill them all. Every so often, an allied soldier will pop out of nowhere, and if you shoot them, you lose health.
@Grummz I have a better idea. You can go back. Your visa is revoked if you do because it's now clearly safe.
I agree with the "you cannot ever send money to that country, either" comment.
So the fighters were knights? Interesting.
Makes sense, though. The original intent was for the PCs to be minor nobles or children of merchants or something similar. i.e., someone who could afford to NOT work 24/7. At the same time, low enough on the totem pole that, at least at first, adventuring was their primary source of income.
@nateliason It's also programming, believe it or not. Exact same skillset, but the terms are different. Admittedly, it's a mix of very low level and very high level that I don't think you'd find in reality, but every concept has a direct equivalent in programming.
Funnily enough, the original voting laws in this country did not ban women from voting. No mention of sex was made.
The requirements were at least one of:
- To own land
- To own a business
A woman who owned land or a business was allowed to vote. The problem was coverture laws: the instant she married, all of her property became her husband's property.
Not shared property. Her husband's property. And if she left him, she did not get it back.
There was at least one millionaire woman before the civil war. Not family-owned, not husband-owned, specifically *her* net worth. I can't remember whether she inherited the property from her father, if it became hers following her husband's death, or what, but she was a political powerhouse after that. She voted. She used her income to push policy.
Women were allowed to vote prior to the Nineteenth. But they had to earn it the same way men of the time did, and had to never marry after earning it, or the vote would move to her husband.
My question is, does coverture need to return if we tie the vote to owning capital (such as land or a business) again? I have no information on when coverture was repealed.
Even the Plains Indians knew to set fire to the Great Plains every year.
Why? Because these Indians in particular were agricultural. And when there was a fire after harvest season, next year's harvest improved.
They didn't know why. Just that it did. So they did it.
When the ancients achieved better results than us, we have a problem.
@KlondikeBob199@esrtweet To the internet speed itself. Not to what he was downloading on it. (Yes, he was absolutely downloading that kind of stuff. He and I were both the right age. But that's not what I'm referring to.)
At the very minimum, other pilots on the frequency will make fun of you for your hot mic. If none of them do at first, the ATC on the frequency will prompt them.
I heard Kennedy Steve say "Are you guys going to let him get away with that?" in an incredulous voice after a hot mic landing brief for the passengers (whatever you call the "here's the weather, welcome to X" speech upon landing). Laughed REALLY hard.
Religions have rituals for a reason. The communion, for example, is to remind us of our personal relationship with our savior.
The ritual cleansing of hands, which Jesus chastised the Jews for adding, had an intent: to clean your hands before eating. It is notable that Jesus never said that cleansing ritual was a bad idea, merely that what went into you did not make you unclean before the Lord.
I am Christian, but I am not Catholic and never have been. This looks like something out of that Queen Spider and Planet Gelgamek episode of South Park. I know this ritual must have a reason for existing. I just don't have it.
@Careerflex@DisaffectedPod It's a common joke that psychologists are very broken mentally, know they are, went into psychology to figure out what was wrong with them (and possibly what to do about it), then realized they had to actually make a living and went into the field they were trained for.
@KirscheVerstahl "Pussy"
"Friend"
"Penis"
I... do not like what I hear.
Also, "Homosex" is in there, but the "word" ends at the X.
... The "friend" I saw was actually part of "boyfriend."
This is maliciously crafted.
I only go back to my psychiatrist every three months because the government thinks I will somehow lose my ADHD. No, my ability to concentrate will always go the way of Old Yeller if I go without my meds for two days, it's genetic, stop being stupid.
But some people need genuine therapy. That some of them will "therapist hop" until they get someone who will validate them is sad, but understandable. Change is hard. Yet without those therapists who refuse to validate, who insist on pulling on that string, their situation will not improve.
I understand that the mindset exists. I will never understand the mindset.
@Careerflex I notice that you answered the second sentence very thoroughly (appreciated, even if I did word it poorly; nice to know that information regardless) and seem to have forgotten the first one.
