This is not just about sexual assault and harassment
Itโs about the culture of impunity and bullying that allows these attitudes and behaviours to flourish
It ALL needs to change
For all diverse surgeons

Returning to Twitter after a break because of the consultant strike. I'm on strike to support the NHS and pay restoration for consultants - or there will be no NHS for the future #ConsultantStrike#BMA
Striking because we love the NHS and can't bear to see it starved to death. In solidarity with junior doctors, nurses and all our NHS colleagues. We are committed. We care. We all deserve fair pay.

@LiangRhea@RCSnews@WomenSurgeonsUK@WileyHealth@BondUniversity Ordinariness is under appreciated. I remember feeling guilty when I got home and was mobbed by my three kids. I'd not been around enough. When I came in and got a hi then they went back to playing, I was ordinary, mum being there was ordinary, and I'd been there enough.
@LiangRhea@RCSnews@WomenSurgeonsUK@WileyHealth@BondUniversity Particularly this, "We cannot set up a system where those who have compassion and a balanced life are discouraged from continuing, and then wonder why we end up with difficult colleagues and toxic units." @RCSnews take note!
Hot off the press- transcript of my @RCSnews@WomenSurgeonsUK#IWD2023 address, with references, published in ANZ J Surg and shortly to be co-published in the RCS Bulletin. ๐

Excellent article, The Times. Sexual assault in surgery, with implications for patient safety: "they trust us at their most vulnerable moments and there are people out there taking advantage." @joanna_maggs@VictoriaPegna@HelenaKennedyQC@RachelSylvester https://t.co/Dool0VCXaB

@SnotSurgeon Agree with this and the replies. Yet IWD was an occasion to feel the power of getting together and hearing some inspirational words. Recharged by that. Grateful.
(And it was good to meet you!)
Such an honour to chair this session with the amazing Prof Averil Mansfield and hear the insightful and provocative words of Prof Rhea Liang #IWD2023@WomenSurgeonsUK@UKWENTs@OrthoWomen
Much to do.
Just soaking in all the goodness from Prof Averil Mansfield being interviewed by @nizbuzz at the @RCSnews#IWD2023. Incredible grace- 'I didn't experience discrimination- it was just that people needed to get used to the idea [of a woman surgeon]'.
