It's Mental Health Awareness Month, and we are drawing attention to ways that caregivers can promote mental health in children. Tip #1: healthy relationships with other people besides parents are crucial to a child's mental health!

As the holidays approach and families plan gatherings, now is a great time to teach and remind children that their bodies are their own and to tell if someone makes them feel uncomfortable or unsafe.

Mental health professionals are key in helping children and their families heal from abuse. An integral part of the multidisciplinary team, they work to ensure that the child's emotional well-being is always at the forefront. We thank them for their skill and dedication!
This Mental Health Awareness Week, we would like to remind everyone that it's OK to not be OK. Even the strongest of people have times when they need help. Reach out if you need it, and check on your friends and loved ones.

Caring adults are an important protective factor for a child - but it's important to recognize when an adult's behavior signals potential for abuse. If you see these behaviors, tell the parent, talk to the child, and /or take action to keep the adult away from the child.
As if it's not already challenging enough to keep up with what children and teens do online - some use a secret "code" of text through emojis. Itβs important for parents and caregivers to stay informed on this type of slang to help prevent unsafe communications and activities.
Child Advocacy Centers so often go above and beyond for the children and families they serve, and we at NJCA are honored support these efforts. Funds raised from the Heroes for Children 5K and Family Fun/Run Walk allow us to provide resources for those "extras".
