Jumped into Building a #thinkingclassroom with 7th grade scientists today. Engagement and arguing from evidence were through the roof. “This was a great way to get my brain going again after break!” (They don’t know this is just the beginning…) #vnps@pgliljedahl
7th grade scientist who has been behind pace most of this unit, but has made a big push to finish the unit on pace:
“It feels pretty good to be almost caught up!”
Yes!! 🤩 @modernclassproj#mcp#mcpchat
We've got great news! 🤩 #OpenSciEd's first high school units are ready and available for download! We're so excited to expand our high quality #science curriculum into high schools nationwide! 🎉 Click here to explore the units: https://t.co/7wMgkwEaKQ
I helped write two OpenSciEd units (natural hazards and heredity), and now the entire middle school curriculum has been top rated by EdReports! OpenSciEd is the only program out there with this rating! I’m proud to facilitate my 7th grade scientists through the units! 🎉
3 Gateways. 3 Ratings. ALL GREEN! 🎉 We're thrilled to announce that our middle school curriculum received an all-green rating from #EdReports! Read our review: https://t.co/WQdoDUFT0g! #allgreenallgood#OpenSciEd
Quotes from my class yesterday:
*Looks at public progress tracker* “Oh, I think I forgot to show Ms. Keigher my mastery check!”
(At 2:57, the end of the day) “Can we have class for 10 more minutes so I can be ready for lab tomorrow?”
🤩🤩
@modernclassproj#7thgrade
@sciresSoehl@wandabryant@NGSS_tweeps@UFTMS_Division Love them, learn their names, honor them as individual human beings who are capable of more than they're usually given credit for, and be a little silly. :)
Here we go! @OpenSciEd Bath Bombs via the @modernclassproj model. We want to know so much about how bath bombs work! Self-paced lessons start tomorrow for the first lesson set!
@modernclassproj@ms_hyphenated@OpenSciEd @katlynn_t_ Here's what I put together today - my thinking in combining OSE and MCP. I turned on commenting on the doc - I'd love any feedback/questions. https://t.co/xrGFKUKDUA
I also started a FB group for OSE/MCP Collaboration: https://t.co/PZJens1cgN
@Lauren_BWIS@OpenSciEd@modernclassproj Yep, a Google Sheet with Lesson numbers on the top. I break OSE lessons up into multiple MCP lessons, each with their own Lesson Question… which serves as the mastery check.
@ms_hyphenated@OpenSciEd@modernclassproj (Also @katlynn_t_ )… I’m putting my thoughts together in one resource that I’ll share. I helped write 2 OSE units and served on Achieve’s peer review panel for science, so I’m very interested in preserving the designed-for-NGSS nature of OSE. More soon as time allows!
We HAVE Google Classroom, but I find myself getting lost in it, and I don't want my students to also get lost. I make a website for each of my units, and link it (and our Daily Check-in) at the top of the Google Classroom stream!

As we open our school doors, remember there are alternatives to, "How was your summer?" I've been working to shift my own language & changing what I ask adult learners because it's important to be trauma-informed with all ages. Here are a few resources to get you started: 1/5
