Sun City resort is going off the grid after spending R5 million on diesel last year☀️

They’ve already saved R1 million within the last two months after the installation of their solar project. They have installed 2584 panels on 12000m2 of roof worth R16 million. These panels provide 1.4MW of capacity each week. They have plans to install a further 209 panels. The extra panels will increase capacity to 1.56MW which will cover close to 15% of the resorts energy requirements. The project has a 25 year life span.

Thanks to this solar set-up, Sun City is going to reduce its annual CO2 emissions by an estimated 2 510 tons per year.

What I can’t understand about landlords spending millions on diesel each month to keep their businesses and their tenants operating is that all the tax derived from the purchase of diesel goes to RAF (Road Accident Fund) and not towards solving the energy crisis. Seems counter productive.

More and more big businesses being forced to go off the grid due to Eskom’s failure to deliver consistent power. It’s tough to do business in South Africa.
