Fabrizio Romano is Italian. He covers major football across the world. There are many football players but he talks about Lamine Yamal regularly.
Even when Yamal posts something on his Instagram story, Romano can take a screenshot and share it with his millions of followers.
Africans flood his comment section with praise and nobody questions whether Yamal is paying him to talk about him.
But when Micky Jnr, an African football journalist, celebrates the achievements of another African, Rulani Mokwena, who is doing well at Pyramids FC, suddenly the narrative is that the coach is paying me to write about him.
Why is it so difficult to accept that an African journalist can genuinely appreciate and promote the work of an African coach without money being involved?
Must every positive story about an African personality be sponsored?
People have their favourite journalists, and I understand that. You may not like me or my style of journalism. That’s absolutely fine. You don’t have to like me, agree with me or follow my work.
But don’t disrespect me or undermine my work simply because you don’t like me. That is something I will not take lightly.
I have worked hard to build my name and platform in African football journalism. I know the effort, time and resources I put into what I do, and I will not allow anyone to casually dismiss my work by claiming that someone is paying me without any evidence.
We complain that the world doesn’t give African football enough attention, yet when one of our own highlights the achievements of an African coach, some people are the first to question his motives.
That stupid mentality needs to change.
I will continue to cover African football, highlight our talents, celebrate our achievements and tell our stories. That’s what I do.
Not every journalist who speaks positively about someone is being paid. Sometimes, good work simply deserves recognition.

Former Top Cop Shadrack Sibiya To Spend Another Weekend Behind Bars as Randburg Court Reserves Judgment in Rape Bail Bid After State Argues Accuser Was Too Intoxicated to Consent
Former top police official Shadrack Sibiya will spend another weekend behind bars after the Randburg Magistrates’ Court reserved judgment in his bail application. Magistrate Hleziphe Mkhasibe said the court would deliver its decision on Tuesday. Sibiya has been in custody since his arrest at The Grand strip club and restaurant on 21 September.
The State is opposing bail, arguing that the 18-year-old woman who accused Sibiya of rape was too intoxicated to consent to sex after allegedly being supplied with alcohol at The Grand in Sandton. Prosecutor Velile Makhasana dismissed Sibiya’s claim that the encounter was consensual as the State presented its arguments against his release.
Makhasana also argued that Sibiya’s conduct before his arrest pointed to a guilty conscience. The prosecutor cited allegations that Sibiya’s cellphones had been completely wiped of information before he was arrested. The State raised the alleged deletion of information as part of its arguments opposing bail.
Sibiya faces six charges, including rape, sexual grooming, human trafficking and the negligent handling of a firearm, which he denies. The bail hearing resumed with the State expected to conclude its arguments. However, the court reserved judgment until Tuesday, meaning Sibiya will remain in custody over the weekend while awaiting the outcome of his bail application.
This is HIGH TREASON! 😭

And I can assure you that some EFF members will see absolutely nothing wrong with this blatant abuse of the system.
