@aapark11 @dr_s_bertrand I often feel the same way Alexa! I am thankful for the staff I can lean on if I am heading into unchartered waters: how to pose thoughtful questions, navigate towards restoration and, ultimately, unity. And we probably will do it wrong - but will be stronger. #tch407su2020
A3: Deconstruct/construct/reconstruct the history lessons I teach. Just started Howard Zinn's People's History...(for kids).Make the content relevant, meaningful and allow for students to explore their questions.

@BJamirson It is still very murky to me. I need to see it modeled. I also believe that there is content that learners should know - we need to connect it to them, but how to make that student-centered. Thoughts? #tch407su2020
A2: "Classrooms as Communities" with the reference to Ira Shor's work: students empowered to learn. Couple this with Edmin's Reality Pedagogy. Shift to student-centered learning. #tch407su2020
@dr_s_bertrand @mcgrath_kaylie It was the start of an on-going conversation - being white, being privileged, acknowledging it, open door to invite others to adjust my thinking - being transparent about my implicit bias. Work to do! #tch407su2020
@dr_s_bertrand @BJamirson Yes! And relationship TO the material - why is it important to learn about the Industrial Revolution? - for example. #tch407su2020
@mcgrath_kaylie @dr_s_bertrand We read White Frag. as a building last year. It was uncomfortable - yes!! Shifts often are. Be open about that uncomfortableness, don't bury it - face it. #tch407su2020

@RileyDueck Thanks for responding.! Yes, there is a sense of color-blindness and it makes for great conversations. The students love the book and sometimes comment that our community now is not as divided as the bookโs but we then talk about that getting even better.
I want to share a quote from journalist Roxane Gay: Eventually doctors will find a vaccine but black people will continue to wait for a cure for racism. The rest of the world yearns for a return to normal, normal is the very thing from which we yearn to be free.
I wrote out some thoughts on how to make this moment a real turning point to bring about real changeโโand pulled together some resources to help young activists sustain the momentum by channeling their energy into concrete action. https://t.co/jEczrOeFdv

A5: Don't go it alone! Teaching from your home is a natural isolation. Make sure that you are collaborating with colleagues!!!! 2. Establish relationships early with students/parents - above teaching content.
