One of the best things you can do for yourself in adulthood, is to learn how to leave things alone.
Just leave it alone. Situations, people, whatever it is, leave it alone.
The fact that you can read a book written by someone who has been dead for two centuries and feel less alone than you do in most rooms full of living people is either the most beautiful or the most heartbreaking thing about literature and I genuinely cannot decide which.
the best thing you can do for yourself is actively increase your surface area for luck to hit you. go outside, try new cafes, museums, events, take a new route home, speak to people, ask questions, side quest.
the more you do, the more serendipity and synchronicity will find you.
If you're the mother who was reading Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone aloud to your child on the LNER train from London to Edinburgh yesterday, one of my grown up children was listening and says you did the voices brilliantly❤️🥹
I just saw a quote that said, “You worry too much for someone who figures it out every time” and I feel like I’m not the only one who needs to hear that.
Something I've grown to love: People who are boring in the best possible way. Predictably kind. Reliable. Present. No drama. No chaos. No volatility. There’s nothing better than someone who shows up with consistent energy. You can build a life around those people.
Think about it. When your pet walks in from another room just to find you, that means they were somewhere else for a moment… and decided to come see you.
In their own simple way, their little brain thought about you. They wondered where you were, what you were doing, and they came looking for you.
They didn’t need anything. They just wanted to be near you.
That’s love in its purest form. Quiet, loyal, and completely unconditional.

The biggest skill you can develop is the ability to reset fast. Bad conversation? Move on. Bad day? Start fresh tomorrow. Missed workout? Hit it the next day. Poor decision? Learn and adjust. You can’t control what happens to you, but you control how long you let it affect you.
Please get back to doing puzzles, sudoku, board games, crosswords, word search. Read long novels and watch long form videos.
Seeing my students and even my age-mates uncomfortable being cognitively unentertained is... something. We’re losing patience with thinking deeply.
Buy your children a book every month and have a date to talk about the book and what they’ve read. Talk about the characters like they’re real. Bond over literature. Debate the lessons and decision making. Over food and drinks. Cultivate readers and build their collection
A simple cheat code for life is to just be easy to work with.
Respond quickly. Do what you said you'd do. Be pleasant.
An alarming number of people suck at all of this.
