Ducks Unlimited is opposed to the sale of public lands through reconciliation and without due process, and is actively engaged in the defense of America’s public estate. Our current efforts are particularly focused on protecting the National Wildlife Refuge System, the integrity of conservation easements, and the Prairie Potholes that generations of duck hunters have invested in.
My student Griffin just sent me this profoundly sad photo of a Great Bowerbird bower. The painting on the right depicts what the bower should look like, filled with pebbles, shells, and bones. Nowadays, the birds use what they can most easily find in their surroundings: garbage.
Excited to elevate the work of 2 of my former PhD students: Dennis Kim just published the second chapter of his PhD - a review of memory-informed SSFs in Movement Ecology and @Fabi_Iannarilli published a How-to guide for using hierarchical models to quantify activity patters.
These cool results speak to the power of tracking complicated mating patterns across long-term datasets. These types of multi-generational environmental benefits may be more common, but are simply hard to detect! https://t.co/8zgYtMy1v3 8/8
So excited to be use “zugunruhe” in a publication! If you know, you know. Take a look at spring migration strategies of MAV mallards 🦆 https://t.co/D8BOqBx3GF

@ecologyofgavin Couldn’t agree more. Often at the edge of a field, writing is how we (scientists) think about and work through complex ideas. LLMs are great for tasks like drafting a grocery list, but won’t replace deep thought that good writing facilitates and requires (imo!)
We are recruiting students for the Ecology and Evolutionary Biology PhD program @UTEP across a wide variety of fields. Multiple funded RA positions tuition remission included for qualified applicants available starting in 2025.

See our new paper on how to determine when you need to collect more data ... surprisingly, more data often has little value for decisions ... our paper unravels the mystery as to why "Value of Information Analyses" often yield surprising results https://t.co/Ll8Ex6jMkH
Check out recent publication on connectivity of waterfowl sanctuaries for wintering mallards! Managers will be especially interested in the Discussion on #hunting#disturbance and #privatelandcoops https://t.co/mH0NHctRMR
