In my future career as a nurse, I will use my knowledge of nutrition to talk to my patients about their diet without judgement. I will also look to recognize imbalance in their diets so that I can refer them to other nutrition experts, such as dietitians. @beh353#beh353
@DaniellaCondon2 @beh353@beh353#beh353 thanks for sharing! I find it so interesting that adding certain foods to your diet can help prevent diseases like cancer.
Patents on mushrooms?🤔I didn't even realize that patents could be put on components of vegetables. I would be interested to see more studies done on the effects of mushrooms on depression @beh353#beh353
@EmmaDArpinoRD@beh353#beh353 Thank you for sharing your thoughts with our class! This semester I learned that just because a food is processed, does not mean that it is bad. I did not know that frozen produce is considered to be processed. I also learned that balance is key!
@netraapatel@nutrition_facts@beh353 Hi Netra, thank you for sharing this! I also thought that eating meat would lead to increased endurance but was proven wrong. I think meat is often categorized as the best protein source in our society, when this is not always the case. @beh353#beh353
@beh353#beh353 the collision of the COVID-19 pandemic with obesity highlights the vitality of nutrition and exercise for all age groups. Both public health issues have exacerbated one another on a large scale. Very important research that can hopefully lead to great change.

This article for older adults is an easy read, includes examples of good foods to eat, is written by an RD, and includes troubleshooting tips for common issues that older adults may face with nutrition. I would recommend this to patients! https://t.co/jWcymMvXP8
@beh353#beh353 I never knew that personalized/precision nutrition even existed! Genetic testing to tailor nutrition to athletes has the opportunity to increase performance due to decreased inflammation. However, shouldn't athletes eat healthy foods anyway?
Someday, genetic testing will help athletes know what to eat (more blueberries?) to tame inflammation related to hard exercise: https://t.co/F04bKWOWOl #FNCE@eatright#DavidNiemanPhD
@beh353#beh353 when caring for patients who struggle to manage their weight, it is vital that healthcare professionals don't blame patients. There are many factors that contribute to obesity, such as poverty. As future healthcare professionals, we must be kind to all patients
I really like this article! Snacking is something that I sometimes struggle with but as this article says, it is sometimes better to eat meals earlier when you are actually hungry rather than waiting for what time we think we should eat. @beh353#beh353
@Hexanehydride @beh353 This is really important in providing patient-centered care! Bodies come in many different shapes and sizes, regardless of how healthy someone eats and how much they exercise. It is vital to treat patients with respect and compassion rather than passing judgement. @beh353#beh353
@OliviaClaf@beh353 I did not know this before this week! As students it is so hard to get enough sleep every night, I know I don't. This is definitely something that I would like to improve in my life to benefit my health. Thanks for sharing, Olivia! @beh353#beh353
@beh353#beh353 Crazy to think that only 2.3 mini Hershey's chocolate bars=100 calories. I think it's safe to say that many people consumed much more candy on Halloween
@beh353#beh353 This week I learned that obesity costs the US government A LOT of money. As of 2008, obesity cost $147 billion! This is important to consider as a healthcare professional since education & prevention methods can be implemented to help reduce this cost
@beh353#beh353 one barrier to healthy eating that I relate to is lack of time to prepare and cook healthy food. I prep meals when I am out all day, but sometimes I need a snack. Convenient food is often unhealthy but we don't always have the luxury of time to cook healthy meals
@beh353#beh353 I love these Halloween treats for kids! This shows kids that food can be healthy and taste good at the same time. Although everyone loves candy, this is a great addition to traditional Halloween sweets so that kids are still getting nutrients 🎃👻
@DaniellaCondon2 @beh353@beh353#beh353 definitely a barrier I can relate to. I think this has to do with convenience (esp. for college students) since McDonald's is quick & easy vs a sit-down restaurant that may have better options
@beh353#beh353 I shared this article because of the list of foods and their vitamins. The article explains that supplements may help people who are deficient in certain nutrients, but the evidence does not encompass individual diet and exercise regimen.

@beh353#beh353 this shows how big of an impact diet has on preventing cancer. Sadly, this article also shows how disparities in individuals with low income & educational status have less access to healthy food.
